Chapter 248
When I was in the princess’s palace, I at least read books about different races, but in the elven village, I truly had nothing to do.
Although I could communicate with the elves thanks to the regular sprinkling of the essence of the World Tree, I couldn’t interpret their written language.
There was nothing more to resolve in this village anyway.
Unlike me, Reno, Isaac, and Killis were surprisingly busy. While guarding me was one thing, the elves constantly approached them, requesting sparring matches or sharing of knowledge.
Conversely, they only told me to rest.
‘Thanks to that, I’m feeling restless, anxious, and bored all at once.’
Thanks to the new bow and arrows I received from the elves, I practiced archery, but it wasn’t something I could do all day.
The same went for drawing alone to solidify my sense of reality, taking walks, or sleeping.
‘I just woke up a while ago, so I’m not sleepy either.’
I wanted to rest happily without a care, but what did I used to do in times like these? I think I watched cartoons or anime, or documentaries or movies…….
“Those are things I can’t do right now.”
I murmured emptily and lay down on the bed. A deep sense of emptiness and nostalgia washed over me.
I missed modern conveniences terribly. It would be great if I just had a simple puzzle game to play.
RPG games or story-driven games took too long, and I had gotten deeply immersed in them once during my teenage years, so I had been trying to quit them for a long time after cutting myself off.
From experience, it’s hard to control myself.
‘Even this game, if it weren’t for the ridiculous advertisement that flew in, I wouldn’t have paid it any attention.’
Still, it was ironic that things I once considered wasted time were now, knowingly or unknowingly, helping me.
‘It’s hard once I start thinking about it.’
I wanted to eat the foods from the cultural street, not just the culture itself. I guess I had adapted to this world in my own way, so I hadn’t thought about it too much until now…
Tteokbokki, fried chicken, pizza, kimchi jjigae, curry, pasta, bossam, ramen, etc.
I missed the spicy, sweet, salty, stimulating, and unhealthy flavors.
Is it because I’ve been eating only fruits and vegetables? Indeed, no matter how delicious, fruits and vegetables are just fruits and vegetables.
“Wait a minute.”
I sprang up from the bed.
If it’s anything else, I don’t know, but surely I can make pasta?
“Good. Let’s try it.”
I never thought I’d be cooking here, but since I had nothing else to do, it was perfect.
After getting ready, as soon as I opened the door to my room and stepped out, I saw Reno. As soon as our eyes met, a question came.
“Your Highness? What are you going to do?”
“Oh? How did you know?”
“I heard what you said inside.”
My heart pounded. Only then did I recall that Reno and Isaac had excellent hearing.
‘From where to where did I talk to myself?’
While the bedroom in the princess’s palace had sound-proofing magic on it, this place didn’t.
“Where are Isaac and Killis?”
“They’re both being bothered by the elves. But Your Highness, aren’t you going to tell me what you were planning to do?”
From the looks of it, he seemed genuinely curious. I pushed away my anxiety and replied,
“I’m going to try cooking.”
“Your Highness yourself?”
“Yeah. It’s hard to eat only fruits and vegetables every day.”
“Now that I think about it, you even cooked soup yourself before.”
“Before?”
“During the Coquo incident, I mean. You personally cooked to prove its safety and put it in your food.”
“Right. I did that.”
It was only a few months ago, but I don’t know why it feels like such a distant past.
“Still, wouldn’t it be better to ask Duke Yelpen? Your Highness still needs to rest more…….”
“I’m all better. Besides, it’s better if I make it myself, since it’ll be a new dish for most of them, including Killis.”
I’ve never seen pasta in the princess’s palace, or even in the inns we stopped at, so that was probably true.
“A new dish? What kind of dish is it?”
“It’s called pasta, a dish made by stretching flour dough into long noodles and mixing it with various vegetables and fruits.”
“I truly haven’t heard of it.”
“Right? That’s why I have to make it.”
Reno looked doubtful, but he followed me nonetheless.
