Chapter 98
“What does that mean?”
Morris gestured for Talus and Meliana to come closer, and as they listened to his whispered words, a look of admiration spread across their faces.
“What do you think?”
“Indeed…… If we do that, the First Princess will have no choice but to confess to her crime.”
“Exactly. So, neither you nor my brother need to worry. Just follow my instructions, and everything will fall into place.”
Morris let out a chilling laugh and added.
“In the end, the First Princess will have to pay for her sins.”
* * *
Unlike yesterday when things had been quiet and calm, today there was an unusually large crowd. Confused, I blinked, and Reno, using his spirit, gathered the public’s opinion on the matter.
Spirits could only be heard by those with a high level of affection or by contractors, so neither Isaac nor I could hear them. As a result, Reno kept relaying to me what he had learned from the spirit.
From this, we found out that the commotion yesterday, when Meliana came to find me and the guardians drew their swords, had turned into a rumor of an attack by unknown assailants.
Meliana and her guardians had worn magic robes to conceal their identities, so no one had seen their faces clearly. It seemed that they had retreated after a scuffle with Isaac.
“……They’re calling it an attack by unknown assailants, but the heroic princess who went out to tend to the commoners despite the danger!”
“You don’t have to broadcast that.”
I muttered, irritated. Reno’s spirit, which I had seen once before, fluttered around him for a while before disappearing.
“Your Highness, your face is a little red. Are you embarrassed by the praise? But, you know, our Highness really is amazing.”
“Can you stop?”
“Why? Our amazing Highness.”
No matter how I looked at it, he was teasing me, and the grin on his face was utterly annoying. I had to fight the impulse to pinch Reno’s cheek hard.
‘Still, it’s not a bad thing.’
In fact, it could be considered a good thing. Thanks to that, the iron supplements were selling in large quantities.

‘There’s not much time left.’
Unlike the worries I had yesterday, watching the stock decrease smoothly, I felt thankful to Meliana for causing the commotion.
At the same time, Meliana’s words came back to mind, and they weighed on my heart.
“Don’t cause trouble with that frail body of yours. Just focus on recovering.”
“Not that you’ll ever become Evgenia, but even if you did, do you think you’d be able to handle it properly?”
If Reno hadn’t countered in my place, I would have been at a loss for words for a long time.
The question Meliana had thrown at me had struck right at the heart of the matter.
I didn’t think I wouldn’t become Evgenia. Even if it was something I couldn’t achieve, I had to.
That was the true ending the system wanted, and only by doing so could I return to reality.
But…….
‘I’ve never thought about what happens after becoming Evgenia.’
In fact, I had been avoiding it.
After all, it’s a game. As long as I reach the ending, doesn’t that suffice? What happens after that, whether the game stops or the original Nepheli returns to continue on, it would sort itself out. Who cares?
Even though I thought that way, the reason I couldn’t easily shake off Meliana’s criticism was probably because I had gotten too immersed in this game.
Given that I could feel pain and sensation, and that everything was so realistic with characters moving around, it would be strange not to immerse myself in it.
What frightened me more, though, was the fact that this world sometimes felt more real than the original one. The ‘real me’ felt like a distant past, almost like a previous life.
“Your Highness, please rest now. We’ll take care of the rest.”
“Thank you. I’ll rest for a bit.”
I gratefully accepted the kindness of the palace healers, as I was feeling quite tired. Just as I was about to sit down and relax, two royal guards in uniforms adorned with the royal crest strode into the distribution center.
Although they were wearing royal uniforms, there was something off about their demeanor. They seemed to carry an air of seriousness, as if there was an urgent matter at hand.
Reno and Isaac must have sensed this too, as they both moved closer to me, their vigilance apparent.
The guards surveyed the room briefly before spotting me and immediately approaching with formal gestures.
“May the light of Lublin be with you. We have come to see Your Highness, the First Princess.”
“What brings you here?”
“There has been a summons from Her Majesty Evgenia.”
“A summons……?”
“Yes. All distribution is to be halted, and you are to return to the palace immediately. The same goes for Duke Isaac Harsen.”
Suddenly? Even Isaac?
I felt a little flustered, as I couldn’t think of any reason for such an urgent summons. But since it was an order, there was no choice but to comply.
“Let’s go back.”
