Chapter 108
Cynthia suddenly became sharply clear-headed.
Perfume of Allure? Who was she supposed to be enchanting, if not Segleninde.
Vigor-Boosting Potion? She’d already fainted after going more than six hours on her first time. Just who was Clara planning to kill with that?
And the lingerie, too, was unnecessary for the time being. The way it looked, it was like something made just for events, and honestly, it didn’t seem like she’d need the vigor potion at all.
In the end, Clara, unable to sell a single thing, pouted as she was chased out of the room.
The maids busied themselves with the finishing touches to Cynthia’s appearance. Lastly, they placed several small jeweled pins in her hair, creating a decoration like a scattering of stars, and she looked no less than a model.
Melissa, looking Cynthia up and down in satisfaction, beamed. She said that ever since the Count’s manor, she had always wanted at least once to doll up her young lady like this, and now she was finally able to fulfill her wish, laughing as if a weight had been lifted from her heart.
“Oh, by the way, from the tailors who made this dress to the shoes and jewelry, all of it was prepared by the Master as a gift for you, Miss.”
“Segleninde did?”
“Yes! Master will pretend not to know if you mention it, so please, just keep it to yourself, Miss.”
Cynthia turned her head in surprise. There must have been dozens of boxes in the dressing room alone, packed with materials for clothes, shoes, and jewelry, and Segleninde had prepared all of this for her? She could hardly believe it.
When she arrived at the dining hall for breakfast, Segleninde was already waiting and welcomed Cynthia. He looked her up and down, so finely dressed, and then offered a brief assessment.
“…Now you’re finally worth looking at.”
He sounded indifferent, but in reality, he looked completely entranced. He gazed at Cynthia with eyes as if beholding a treasure found nowhere else in the world, checking and rechecking to make sure he hadn’t missed a single detail.
Cynthia saw through him easily. With a teasing smile, she spoke to him.
“If it suits me, just say it suits me. I’m pretty, aren’t I?”
“Pretty, who said you’re pretty. I just don’t think I’ll ever get tired of looking at you, no matter how long I look. Not pretty at all. Actually, I don’t think this is enough, so after you finish eating, I’ll have to get you another outfit.”
Honestly, just listening to him was a spectacle. However you looked at it, he was simply crazy about her, but he would twist his words in every way possible. Cynthia, smiling, scolded him back on purpose.
“Oh come on, can’t you just be honest and say I’m pretty?”
“Can’t you just understand and move on without me saying it?”
“I can’t! You can, so just say it! Just accept that I’m pretty!”
“P-Please, you two, don’t fight.”
Melissa, who had watched their bickering for days, anxiously tried to stop them.
But in reality, it was nothing close to a fight. Even as he spoke like that, Segleninde still couldn’t take his eyes off Cynthia, and Cynthia, only saying sharp words to tease him, kept smiling the whole time.
In the end, it was always Segleninde who declared defeat first.
“…Fine, you’re pretty. Happy now?”
“If you’d just left out the ‘happy now’, I really would have been.”
“I swear, I get scolded even when I say it.”
“If you’d just said it nicely from the start, there’d be no problem. You always make things complicated.”
“Complicated? Do you even get complicated? Do humans eat humans too?”
“…Let’s not talk.”
Maybe it was because he wasn’t human, but even after regaining his memories, he really was clueless about common sense sometimes.
