“Maid, you tell me. What is going on here? Why does the control authority over my mansion not exist with me? Why did you dare attack me? And why is an uninvited guest staying in my mansion when the banquet hasn’t even begun yet?”

The way he referred to her in that gentle voice was cold. Guest. It was a word he should never have been able to say if he properly remembered the wife who was once engaged to him. Cynthia’s hands clenched into fists on their own.

“Sellie, do you… not remember who I am?”

She asked in a trembling voice. She wondered if perhaps, if he heard the familiar nickname, a miracle might happen and his memories would return.

But Segleninde’s beautiful face hardened coldly, then he smiled with terrible softness.

“Well… if nothing comes to mind, I suppose I’ll have to slowly recall it. Though I have no way of knowing which family’s young lady you are. Yes, if you would be so kind as to wait for a moment with the courage that lets you stand so boldly in this place, until I finish my work, then gladly.”

Cynthia sensed it. Truly, he had lost all his memories.

Melissa, who had been hanging helplessly with her neck caught in Segleninde’s hand, forcefully shook off his grip. She threw the axe in her hand at Segleninde, retreated while blocking Cynthia’s path, and spoke quickly.

“Even if we die, as long as the Master wills it, we can come back to life. As you know.”

“Melissa…!”

“So hurry, find a way to restore Master’s memories as quickly as possible. If it’s you, you can do it, Madam!”

Segleninde casually dodged the axe Melissa had thrown and was rushing in, gripping his bloodstained sword. Melissa changed the vines she pulled up from the floor into an axe and held it, then spoke to Cynthia one last time.

“Remember, all control authority over the ducal residence is now yours!”

Clang!

Their weapons collided, and Cynthia quickly turned away from before them.

This was not the time to despair. While Melissa could hold out even for a moment, she had to get as far away from Segleninde as possible.

She had to find a way to restore Segleninde’s memories, no matter what.

Ignoring the thick scent of blood spreading behind her, she swallowed her tears. It felt as if the soles of her feet were on fire as she ran. Since going to the Sky Garden now might actually be dangerous, she planned to first go somewhere she could hide as thoroughly as possible.

The mansion’s control authority was hers. She had also learned how to handle it through Segleninde, so somehow, she would manage.

Ding—

You cannot do anything. The ‘villainous mastermind Segleninde’ will remain in a permanent memory reset state.

That is no longer the ‘Segleninde’ you know.

The self-proclaimed ‘Will of the World’ sneered. Cynthia gritted her teeth.

“Even after everything is over, you still want to drive me out of this world? Why the hell!”

Nothing is over yet. A fitting punishment must be given to that thing and to you.

The ‘villainous mastermind Segleninde’ has permanently lost all memories from after his first meeting with you.

That thing must ultimately be buried alone beneath the earth and rot away. It wanted that itself.

Give up and accept the end.

That is the punishment given to you for trying to share your life with that thing.

Something’s off here.

Cynthia felt a question arise. She hid inside a room mainly used by the servants, locked the door, and caught her breath. As she calmly thought back, hadn’t this message window claiming to be the ‘Will of the World’ been calling Segleninde the ‘villainous mastermind’ this whole time?

Was the term ‘villainous mastermind’ commonly used in this world right now?

Aside from herself, who had perceived this world as a game and recognized his existence as a villain in the story, was there anyone who would call him that?

And there was another strange point.

She knew this world had been swayed by Segleninde in many ways until now. He had disturbed countless principles and even touched fate in order to settle Cynthia into this world.

So if the world said it hated watching him, who had disturbed the world as he pleased, marry a human and live peacefully, she could understand that.

That would be true if one assumed this world was an entity with a personality. But.

‘It should at least make sense. If something like that existed, it would’ve intervened back when Sellie kept calling me here over and over. It would’ve been easier to intervene then than now, so it’s strange for it to step in now.’
