The messages, which kept being erased and rewritten in quick succession, stopped there.
For a while, the message lingered sluggishly in front of Cynthia’s eyes before finally disappearing after some time. Cynthia could fully understand what it meant.
Right now, Segleninde was saying that since she was afraid of him, he would give her some time alone.
But he hoped she wouldn’t be away for too long. As if he was watching her reaction, almost as if he was afraid she might leave for good.
Cynthia was the one whose lies had been exposed…
So why was he the one who seemed afraid?
Unless he really had fallen in love.
“…No way.”
Cynthia wiped away the last of her tears with the back of her hand and sniffled. It couldn’t be. Just as the teddy bear had said, she was being deceived. He just wanted to drive her to further despair. To make her misunderstand.
Trying desperately to steady her confused heart, she turned toward the door, when the teddy bear urgently spoke up.
[Cynthia, quickly, open the map!]
“What? Why?”
Startled by the urgent messages that kept popping up, Cynthia hastily took the new map out from her inventory. Instantly, a bright red light flared up, stabbing her retinas like a warning signal.
Narrowing her eyes, Cynthia examined the red glowing dots that appeared on the map.
Were they on the second floor? Several red dots were moving hurriedly through the hallway, as if fleeing something. There were at least five of them.
“What is this?”
And chasing those red lights, a single white light was darting after them at full speed.
When Cynthia realized what it was, a chill ran down her spine. The teddy bear quickly explained.
[As expected, he’s gone to kill the remaining people.] [At least while he’s focused on hunting them down, you should be able to reach the Fourth Floor without interference. Of course, those people will die.] [What will you do?]
It felt as if she’d been given an invisible choice.
Cynthia didn’t hesitate long. She folded up the map and put it back in her inventory, then stepped out of the atelier. Walking quickly but with a hint of hesitation, she rounded the corner, took a short deep breath, and grabbed the doorknob.
With a bang, she flung open the door.
Revealing the master bedroom.
“Ha…”
The room was empty.
The momentary tension left Cynthia, and she let out a sigh as she approached the bed. She pulled back the blanket, curled up inside, and took out the map again from her inventory.
The white light, which had been chasing the five red lights, suddenly stopped and then began moving at lightning speed in a different direction than before. Segleninde had realized she had returned to the rest point.
She put the map back in her inventory. Even as her heart pounded, she desperately hoped that Melissa was among those red lights. If not, she probably wouldn’t have come back here. Maybe.
And there was one more reason she had to come here. The reward.
‘It said if I returned to the rest point, I’d get the reward I wanted.’
Cynthia deliberately addressed her thoughts as if speaking to someone inside her mind.
‘Then there’s only one thing I want. To not have my thoughts read anymore.’
A moment later.
As the message appeared before her eyes under the covers, she heard the sound of the door opening.
