The next morning came.

Although the sky outside the window was as dark as ever, no different from usual, Cynthia decided to consider it a new day since it felt like a day had passed.

“Are you awake? Come eat.”

Segleninde treated Cynthia as if nothing had happened the day before.

Apparently, having gone downstairs in the meantime, he had noticed that the food supplies in the inventory had run out from their gradual consumption, and brought up a meal from the kitchen, which he laid out on the table. Then, sitting in front of it, he patted his knee as if to signal her over.

For now, Cynthia decided to act as she normally would, so she trotted over, yawned, and sat herself on his knee.

While she ate the food, which had been cut into tiny pieces like bird feed and placed into her mouth, his lips did touch her head and nape now and then, but this time, as soon as the meal was over, he did not take her to the bed to lick her lower lips and drink her essence for his own meal, as he had before.

Cynthia tried her best not to show her disappointment and excused herself, saying she would go wash up, and entered the bathroom.

While she was washing up and running the water, she opened the map. The five lights she had seen yesterday were now all gathered together near the stairs leading from the second floor down to the First Floor.

At the very least, the number hadn’t decreased. Cynthia still couldn’t give up hope that Melissa might be among them.

On the other hand, she was also surprised that, despite them moving around together like that, she had never run into them even once. After all, the only person she had met on her way up to the third floor had been that crazed nobleman in heat she’d encountered in the Moon Flower Garden.

The one thing she was sure of was that, as things stood, she was the closest person to the Fourth Floor.

‘…All I have to do now is go to the Fourth Floor and open the door. Then everyone can get out. And… I can go home, too.’

For now, Cynthia decided to focus only on getting out.

Of course, not all her problems were solved. She peeked out of the bathroom, and Segleninde was still sitting on the bed, watching as if waiting for her.

Keeping her voice as low as possible, she whispered to the teddy bear in her inventory.

“But if what you’ve been saying is true, even if I make it to the Fourth Floor, won’t Segleninde try to stop me and the others from leaving? Especially since he’s with me right now. What if I get interrupted before I can activate the magical device?”

[I have an idea for that.]

[It’ll be a risky gamble, but it’s better than not trying anything at all.]

In other words, the chance of failure was high.

But the teddy bear was right. Even if she had failed to escape, she was at least more experienced in these matters than Cynthia was. So, Cynthia decided to trust her.

“Tell me what your plan is.”

***

A few hours later, Cynthia was standing at the stairs leading to the Fourth Floor with Segleninde.

Surprisingly, Segleninde did not try to stop her from going upstairs. Even as she used the key she’d found in the atelier to unlock the massive door at the top of the stairs, he only watched.

Click—

The moment the key turned, the door opened by itself.

A rush of cold wind brushed Cynthia’s forehead and cheeks. Amid the scent of grass, the occasional whiff of flowers drifted by, and a deep blue sky stretched out in the Sky Garden revealed before her eyes.

“Wow.”

Even Cynthia forgot her tension for a moment and let out a spontaneous exclamation. The garden was so beautiful.

Even more lavishly decorated than the Spring Flower Garden or the Moon Flower Garden, at its center stood a pure white gazebo, and from there, paths spread out to the east, west, south, and north, each one designed with a different theme.

Between the paths, Cynthia spotted several figures standing as if they were statues, which brought her back to reality.

Dressed in black uniforms and wearing black masks covering half their faces, tall men with long silver hair hung down stood motionless there. These were the guardians—the clones of Segleninde, and the boss monsters of the Fourth Floor, known as ‘Sentinels’.

The magical device was inside the central gazebo. Cynthia saved her progress at the music box placed by the door, then turned to look at Segleninde, who was standing beside her.

“…You’ll help me, right?”
