Chapter 199
“Ah…”
A hot something trickled down. Blood was oozing from the scratch from Ivonne’s fingernail. But Herix felt that, more than all of this, the words Ivonne harshly commanded him with caused him the most pain.
“I said, get your hands off me.”
Her voice was as cold as the winter storm raging in his soul, perhaps even fiercer. Herix tightened his grip on her arm.
Her arm felt like a rope. If he let go, it felt like he would be severed from her forever. And yet, Herix was still an immature beast who could never become human.
“……”
He had no choice but to release her arm. As his hand fell away, he was filled with overwhelming regret, but it was unavoidable. She had commanded him. He had no choice but to follow.
“Ugh.”
When the arm that had been supporting her dropped, Ivonne collapsed to the ground.
“Madam!”
Isaac rushed to support her, but it was only for a moment. Isaac jerked his hands away from Ivonne’s body as if it had burned him.
Because of that, Ivonne fell back to the ground again, but she didn’t seem to mind.
“I-I’m sorry. Let me help you up again.”
“No. It’s okay.”
Her voice was as hollow as her lowered head, and a few strands of her pink hair, neatly curled at the back of her neck, fell loose. They were the most springlike color, in contrast to the black dress she wore to honor Blitzen.
As she looked at it, Ivonne muttered vacantly.
“It’s okay. …It’s okay. I know. It’s all okay.”
Her murmured voice grew softer, her confusion became more evident. Isaac wiped a bead of cold sweat from his forehead.
“For now… I think you should rest.”
Ivonne neither agreed nor disagreed with him. Without saying a word, she seemed to cut through the air and disappear in an instant.
It happened so quickly, before Herix could even react to catch her.
Only Isaac and Herix remained in the graveyard.
“You… You did this to me… on purpose!”
Herix, who had been silently catching his breath, lunged at Isaac. He realized that Aiden, wearing Isaac’s mask, had trapped him.
Herix grabbed Isaac by the collar and snarled.
“If you kill Blitzen, you’ll never be forgiven by Ivonne, you knew that—!”
“It’s amazing that you only realized that now.”
Isaac interrupted Herix’s words with a sneer. As he looked into Isaac’s eyes, there was both disgust and satisfaction in them, reflecting the vicious, beast-like fangs that had emerged from Herix.
“If you want to blame someone, you need to admit it. That you followed my orders.”
“That’s…!”
“No? See? You didn’t follow my orders. You acted on your own. You have no right, no reason to blame anyone else. You killed him. You made him unrecognizable, buried him in the ground like that. Now, blaming me? Isn’t that cowardly?”
Herix’s teeth ground together with a sharp crack. Isaac felt a cold sweat bead on his forehead. The sweat, which had been trickling down his brow, now reached his temples.
“Then, you shouldn’t have done that?”
Isaac forced a laugh, his lips trembling as they curled upward. Trying to hide his unease, he roughly slapped Herix’s hand off his collar.
“You brought this on yourself, you filthy beast.”
“I…”
“Yes. You’re paying the price for pretending to be human.”
Isaac sneered at Herix one last time before turning and walking off, following after Ivonne.
“I brought it on myself… “
There was nothing left. The graveyard was empty, shrouded in fog. Herix stood motionless, staring at the ground where Ivonne had collapsed moments ago, the same spot where she had abandoned him.
― You brought this on yourself, you filthy beast.
― Yes. You’re paying the price for pretending to be human.
Isaac’s words echoed in his mind.

Isaac stumbled, his legs tangling as he nearly fell. Fortunately, there was a tree nearby, and he leaned against it for support.
“Ha… this is… impossible.”
He was panting, his voice cracked. Sweating profusely, Isaac wiped the strands of hair clinging to his forehead. His whole body felt drained, and his hands and feet were cold, trembling uncontrollably.
“Ugh…”
Eventually, Isaac couldn’t hold himself up any longer and slid down to the ground, leaning against the tree. The ground beneath him seemed to rise and fall. As dizziness overwhelmed him, making it feel like his eyes were going to fall out.
“Ha…”
Unable to hold it back any longer, Isaac vomited where he sat.
“Gah… huff…”
He never thought a God would throw up. The sour smell made him gag again, and he felt like he might vomit once more. Isaac struggled to move, his legs not cooperating as he slid several times while trying to shift positions. From somewhere, a cool, slightly fishy scent wafted toward him.
“This place…”
It was by a river. As a chill breeze swept across his face, Isaac finally began to clear his mind. However, he still didn’t have the strength to stand. He sat down on a flat rock.
The wind gently brushed his sweat-soaked face and hair. Isaac slowly closed his eyes, letting the breeze pass over him as he thought to himself.
‘Damn it. Just a brief touch, and this is how I end up.’
Was it because they hadn’t met in a long time? Or had Ivonne grown that much stronger? When he helped Ivonne up earlier and held her hand, a significant amount of the power he possessed from Novnie, had flowed into her.
‘Blitzen’s death…’
