Chapter 231
“I honestly don’t understand why Herix is so upset. And what we’re doing here isn’t right.”
“Are you trying to say that I’m throwing a childish tantrum? And for me, what’s wrong is that Ivonne spent time enjoying yourself with another man.”
“I never said that. And another man? I didn’t see Foreign Minister Eisenwood as a man. I saw him as a diplomat we needed to engage with.”
“That’s why I adjusted myself for Ivonne. I didn’t make Ivonne choose between public and private at that moment.”
“That’s obvious.”
“I don’t want to casually deny what Ivonne said, but you saw it.”
“Saw what?”
Ivonne asked, looking confused, and Herix gave her a slightly incredulous look before narrowing his eyes, as if to say, “When did I glare at Clive?” He’d asked if he was acting like a child throwing a tantrum, and now he was doing just that, like a child himself.
Ivonne, feeling both frustrated and oddly fond of Herix’s heavy affection, was dazed. When she pressed on the corners of his eyes, which were folding into an expression of dissatisfaction, he muttered bluntly.
“The chest.”
“…”
Ivonne was at a loss for words. She hadn’t expected to hear such a childish comment from this man’s mouth—’You looked at another man’s chest.’ And technically, she hadn’t looked at the chest.
‘It was the button, stretched so tight it looked like it was about to burst.’
It wasn’t much, but Ivonne shamelessly justified it as an innocent thought, one that no one could hear. Yet, there was a man who could read her thoughts with uncanny accuracy—Herix.
“Is it bigger than mine?”
That was the final blow. Herix had perfectly understood that Ivonne had been admiring Clive’s large chest and had been giving him looks.
Now, Ivonne fell silent. Her mouth was sealed and she couldn’t move her lips. She knew that whatever she said would reveal her mistake, so how could she speak? Thus, she decided to exercise her right to remain silent.
“Heh…”
Instead of staying quiet, though, she knew that if she didn’t say anything, Herix would sulk, and sulk intensely. So, she let out a small laugh. Just as Herix had caught every weakness of hers, Ivonne also knew exactly what made him weak.
Looking back at the time the two had spent together, it seemed strange not to have noticed it before.
As expected, when Ivonne stayed silent and just smiled, Herix stopped complaining or expressing dissatisfaction. Despite enduring this forced, almost mocking smile from her every day, he always gazed at Ivonne’s smile with a dazed expression as if it was something new each time.
“Heh heh heh.”
Ivonne found Herix’s persistent cuteness in the same situation over and over again, and this time, she genuinely smiled from the heart. It was needless to say that Herix’s expression grew even more dazed.
‘I think it’s working now.’
Ivonne slowly lowered the arm that had been massaging Herix’s shoulder. The effort she put into squeezing and massaging it was evident, as her palm was red from the pressure. Rubbing her tingling hand, she put her gloves back on, and Herix seemed to finally come to his senses, though there was still a slight trace of regret in his gaze.
“Minister Eisenwood is lucky.”
“No one would call it lucky that someone from the peace delegation comes back just with all their limbs intact.”
“But I would say so.”
Herix sent her a pointed look, as if asking her if she didn’t agree. He was, in a very cheeky way, seeking praise for not pulling off or breaking the Minister’s arm. Ivonne often couldn’t understand Herix’s way of thinking, but she knew that he, too, probably felt the same about hers.
‘Right, Herix said he couldn’t understand me either.’
No matter how much you love someone, no matter how long you’ve been together, there will always be things that don’t align perfectly and things that can’t be fully understood.
Still, isn’t that what true love and marriage are about? Thinking that way, Ivonne suddenly realized how truly happy she was to be married to Herix, and a warm feeling spread through her chest.
“Yes. I love that Herix.”
“Lo…!”
Although Ivonne had said those words to him many times, this time, Herix froze as if hearing them for the first time. Ivonne felt a little deflated.
“Herix, if anyone saw you, they’d think I’m stingy with saying I love you.”
“Oh, that’s…”
