Chapter 38
However, this also seemed to have side effects. The moment he left the room, his lower body tightened, feeling as if it would burst.
His ar0usal, suppressed only by Raz’s pheromones, tormented Edin with throbbing pulses all the way to the Rose Palace. Just the thought of Lysei was enough to drive him mad, making the distance to the Rose Palace feel impossibly long.

Empress Raz trembled, consumed by an unbearable sense of humiliation. How dare he subject her to such disgrace, even if he was the Sun of the Empire? She was his wife, the Empress of the Empire.
“How… How dare you….”
Tears welled in Raz’s eyes.
‘This can’t be happening. He can’t do this to me.’
“I’m going to the Rose Palace.”
Edin had abandoned her without hesitation. It had only been a few days ago that he’d raged about that insignificant Nyxna being moved to the Rose Palace. Yet, he stood before her now, defying the late Empress’s will and declaring his intention to go to that very same insignificant woman. The shame was overwhelming, a burden she couldn’t bear.
It hadn’t been love. When they first met, it was mere attraction to a captivating appearance. That attraction had gradually blossomed into interest, a desire to possess him, to make him hers, even though she knew he intensely disliked her.
But even so, this humiliation was unforgivable. The fact that he ultimately disregarded the late Empress’s will and abandoned her for that insignificant Nyxna was absolutely unacceptable.
Raz bit her lower lip hard.
‘If he won’t be mine, I’ll destroy him.’
Her father, who had always disapproved of Edin, had once tried to overthrow the Emperor using heretics. She had protected Edin then. Now, despite her efforts, Edin had cast her aside. She would no longer cling to him.
The Emperor of Atrasia. The position, reserved for those born with the ability to nullify dark magic, would be a difficult and arduous one for her to attain. But it wasn’t impossible. She had her father, a powerful backer, and the heretics allied with him.
The Empire needed an Emperor because of the power to nullify dark magic. But since she couldn’t see dark magic, it was a power she couldn’t use, even if she possessed it. It was ironic, yet the people of the Empire, fearing heretics, found comfort in the mere existence of this useless ability.
Therefore, an Emperor who allied with those who wielded the unseen dark magic would surely be accepted by the people.
Wiping away her tears, Raz glared at the door where Edin had disappeared and muttered, “I will dethrone you and take the Emperor’s seat for myself.” Her voice was laced with sharp resentment towards Edin.
Overcome by rage, tears streamed down her face again. Raz angrily wiped them away, renewing her resolve. She would use the heretics’ power to incite a rebellion, dispose of Edin and Lysei, who had humiliated her so, and claim the throne for herself.

Lysei tensed at the sight of Edin, who had appeared unexpectedly. He was breathing heavily, sweating as if he had just run a hundred-meter dash, and his eyes looked hazy.
Furthermore, the overwhelming surge of Edin’s pheromones ignited every cell in her body, ar0using her despite being a Beta. The rut of a dominant Alpha was that dangerous.
“Edin…?”
“Lysei.”
Edin’s voice was hoarse as he called her name.
Lysei instinctively took a couple of steps back as Edin strode towards her with his long legs, but she was quickly caught in his strong arms, his grip firm around her waist.
“Edin, are you…?”
Held captive in his embrace, Lysei looked up at him and asked.
“I’m in rut.”
Edin buried his face in her shoulder and groaned.
‘What? Rut? The Alpha rut cycle I know about?’ Lysei blinked in surprise.
She was familiar with the Alpha rut cycle. In the original story, the Emperor’s rut had created frustrating obstacles for the female lead, and it had also led to episodes between her and other potential male leads.
However, the Founding Festival hadn’t begun yet, and the original female lead hadn’t even appeared, making this rut a deviation from the original storyline.
As Edin repeatedly licked and nipped at her shoulder and neck, Lysei wondered if she was supposed to be responsible for his rut this time.
“Lysei.”
But her contemplation was short-lived. Edin pressed his abnormally hot body against hers and slipped his hand inside her clothes. His natural actions set her ablaze, and Lysei realized that her worries were pointless.
“Ah…!”
A short moan escaped her lips as Edin’s hand, perhaps roughened by the onset of his rut, grasped her chest. His index finger grazed her hardened n1pple while his other fingers kneaded her entire bre*st.
“Your Majesty, the bath is ready.”
A voice from outside made Edin pull his hand away from her mound. He took her wrist.
“Let’s bathe together.”
“No, I’ve already bathed….”
“I can’t stand it.”
