Chapter 84
The physician said Edin wouldn’t awaken for at least two or three days, and Lysei insisted on caring for him until then. On the second day of her vigil, Luigia came to visit. Lysei didn’t want to leave Edin’s side, but she knew she needed to speak with Luigia, so she reluctantly rose. Asking Trey to watch over Edin, Lysei accompanied Luigia to the drawing-room.
“How is His Majesty?”
“He hasn’t awakened yet….” Lysei pressed her fingers against her tired eyes. Two days of restless watch over Edin had taken their toll.
“Don’t worry, Sister. His Majesty will wake up soon.”
“I know. He can’t die.” The confident words, spoken almost automatically, brought her unexpected comfort. As the male lead of the original story, he certainly wouldn’t die from something like this. However, Lysei’s continued survival, when she was originally meant to die, had altered the narrative significantly. She couldn’t help but worry about the unforeseen consequences for Edin.
“Sister…” Luigia hesitated, struggling to speak. Recognizing Luigia’s desire to discuss the incident, Lysei offered a gentle smile.
“I know it was the Empress’s scheme.”
Luigia’s eyes widened.
“Come to think of it, something similar happened in the original story, didn’t it?”
“Yes! Luigia misunderstood and ran away to Theor’s mansion, just like you did.”
“I thought you’d told Edin about the secret room.”
“So, the misunderstanding is cleared up?! Actually, Sir Zerga figured it all out. I wanted to tell you, but you suddenly disappeared….”
“I’m sorry. I panicked… So, how are things going with Sir Zerga?”
A blush crept onto Luigia’s cheeks.
“You read the story, so you know how… passionate Sir Zerga is. He kept me up all night! Honestly, after I woke up that day and you were gone, I was so confused and angry. But Sir Zerga was even angrier and immediately started investigating.”
“Oh, really?”
“Yes! I was worried he’d misunderstand me… Although, he admitted to being a little upset. See? He really does like me!” She nodded vigorously.
“It seems even with the original story falling apart, the second male lead’s feelings for the female lead haven’t changed…” Luigia suddenly stopped, waving her hands. “That doesn’t mean the original male and female leads will end up together! I have absolutely no interest in His Majesty. He has such a terrible personality…”
“Haha. Alright, alright.”
“So… the misunderstanding is truly resolved?” Luigia asked cautiously, searching Lysei’s face. Lysei nodded, then began to confide her own worries.
“Actually, even though I know better, I keep having these petty, embarrassing feelings.”
“Petty and embarrassing feelings?”
“It’s strange. I know it’s irrational, but I keep getting jealous. I think I’m losing my mind.”
“Jealous… Are you jealous of me being with His Majesty?”
Lysei hesitated, then gave a small nod. Luigia’s face lit up with a mixture of surprise and delight.
“Sister, you really like His Majesty?!”
“….”
“It’s not strange at all. It’s because you like him so much. I’m the same way.”
“You are…?”
“Of course! I’m jealous of even the maids who attend to Sir Zerga.”
“Oh, me too…”
“See? It’s perfectly normal.”
“….”
“Well, maybe a little extreme, but it’s natural to feel that way when you’re in love. It’s normal to dislike other women being near the man you love.”
“….”
“It’s perfectly normal!” Luigia declared with a bright smile.
Lysei felt a sense of relief after talking with Luigia. She’d been consumed by a newfound jealousy, so much so that she’d considered leaving Edin’s side. She’d even thought it best to step aside so that Luigia and Edin could fulfill the original story’s ending. However, Lysei now possessed abilities that only Luigia should have, and Luigia had Zerga. The original ending seemed unlikely, and that was a comforting thought.
Returning to Edin after Luigia left, Lysei sat beside his bed and gazed at his still form. His flawlessly sculpted face, devoid of color, seemed almost unreal. She reached out, gently touching his cheek. The warmth of his skin brought a sigh of relief.
Hoping for his swift recovery, Lysei rested her head beside his arm. Despite her lack of sleep, she felt no fatigue. Yet, her eyelids grew heavy. She blinked a few times, then drifted off to sleep.
Sometime later, a caressing touch on her cheek roused Lysei from slumber. She had fallen asleep leaning over Edin, but now she was lying in the bed. Startled, she opened her eyes and sat up, immediately noticing Edin sitting on the sofa, speaking with the physician. He turned, a gentle smile gracing his lips as he saw her awake.
“You’re awake?”
