For a moment, Sung-wook thought that this place might really be the afterlife.

“Are you okay?”

A passing nurse approached Sung-wook, who had just woken up, and asked, but Sung-wook just stared at the nurse without saying anything.

“Um… Are you okay?”

“Uh… yeah… but what happened…?”

“You fell from a high place.”

The nurse carefully hid the fact that Sung-wook had attempted suicide.

There was no need to tell someone who couldn’t remember what happened that they had attempted suicide.

“But why am I not injured…?”

“Oh, that’s because Hunter Kim Seonghyun treated you.”

“R-Really? Seonghyun?”

Sung-wook was well aware of the magnitude of the pain he had felt at the time of the incident.

The pain he had felt was so intense that it couldn’t be described simply with words like “hurt” or “painful,” so the fact that Seonghyun had taken that pain upon himself was quite shocking.

“After checking your condition, he just left.”

“Oh… Did he not get hurt at all?”

“No, he was completely fine.”

Sung-wook bit down hard on his lower lip and sat up in bed.

“Are you sure you’re okay? Even if there’s no pain, you should rest a bit…”

“I’m fine.”

Sung-wook, barely managing to support himself on his momentarily shaky legs, dashed towards the entrance of the hospital.

Since he had just left, he couldn’t have gone far yet.

“Oh, thank you very much.”

Just then, he heard Seonghyun’s voice from up ahead.

Receiving his phone from the paramedic, Seonghyun was about to leave the hospital.

“Se… Seonghyun!”

“Oh? You’re up already?”

Seonghyun’s expression seemed unaffected.

He appeared surprisingly calm for someone who had experienced such immense pain, and his eyes showed no desire to demand any compensation that might be due.

Seonghyun and Sung-wook sat down on a secluded bench nearby.

This time, Seonghyun bought drinks, and he started the conversation.

“Why did you make that choice?”

“…”

Unable to find a suitable answer to the brief question, Sung-wook responded with silence.

“It’s because of Hwang Euihyun, right?”

“…Actually…”

Sung-wook explained to Seonghyun everything he had experienced up to that moment.

From the moment he entered the academy to the present, although it had been less than a year, it felt like an eternity to Sung-wook.

Seonghyun listened to Sung-wook’s story without any change in expression from start to finish.

Although his face remained devoid of any expression, it seemed as if he understood everything, and Sung-wook could only suppress the overwhelming emotions that welled up inside him.

“It must have been tough.”

It was just a very brief sentence, but it resonated with Sung-wook more deeply than any other words of comfort.

“I’ve been holding you back too much, haven’t I? Let’s go now.”

Sung-wook, now seemingly fully recovered, got up to return to the hospital to complete the discharge process.

Watching his retreating figure, Seonghyun also rose from his seat and left

gazing at the new window that appeared before him.

Having completed the formalities, Sung-wook headed home with a much lighter expression and heart than before.

“Whew… waiting was exhausting.”

“Hwang Eui-hyun…?”

Hwang Eui-hyun had witnessed Sung-wook falling from the classroom window today.

And even witnessed Seonghyun personally treating him.

“Thanks for saving my life.”

The words, incongruent with his lively expression, sent shivers down his spine.

“Hey, leave me alone now!”

“What? Haha! What did you say to suddenly muster up this courage? Oh, did you redirect that pathetic bravery of yours towards me?”

“Shut up.”

At the command to shut up, Hwang Eui-hyun’s face, which had been smirking until just now, quickly hardened.

“You, are you crazy?”

After that, further conversation was unnecessary.

Euihyun exerted his vitality to prove himself, while Sung-wook struggled to shake off the pressure.

‘I might not win…’

But at least he could show some minimum will.

If he had to endure like this every day, resisting each day wouldn’t be so bad.

Preparing for the pain that would come, a familiar voice came from behind.

“I knew it’d be like this.”

It was Seonghyun’s voice.

“Kim Seonghyun? Why are you here?”

“Wow, you really came?”

“Yeah.”

It wasn’t just Seonghyun.

Inhwan and Sang-yeon were also there.

“Trying to make it 3:1…? Cowardly bastards.”

“3:1? Nonsense. You’re not even worth the effort.”

It was none other than Seonghyun who uttered these words.

“Ha, thought I’d go easy on you just because you’re the only one with healing abilities?”

“Getting chatty, feeling a bit nervous?”

“…This son of a …”

Eui-hyun’s frustrated grunt carried over to where Seonghyun was.

“Are you okay?”

“…Are you sure?”

“Yeah.”

While Eui-hyun adopted a stance ready for action, Seonghyun approached without assuming any particular posture in front of Eui-hyun.

“Ha, you’re planning to keep hitting until I get tired?”

Eui-hyun regained his lost smile and moved with a relaxed demeanor.

“Just because you trust in your little healing power, you think you can take me on?”

It was absurd,

and he couldn’t help but laugh at the idea of relying solely on one’s ability to heal others.

“The one who claimed to feel the pain seems to have changed his tune, huh?”

“Rather deal with a masochist who thinks pain makes them stronger?”

Seonghyun already knew about Eui-hyun from Sung-wook.

“…Sung-wook, in the end… fine. As long as you’re out of the picture, I’ll make sure those two idiots behind you won’t be able to show their faces at the academy for a while.”

With a confident expression, Eui-hyun charged at Seonghyun.

As pain turned into strength, Eui-hyun left no openings and welcomed the opponent’s counterattack with pleasure.

“…Huh?”

But something was off.

He hadn’t been hit by any attack, yet suddenly his body was overflowing with power.

‘W-Wait, could this be a re-manifestation of my new ability?’

If that were the case, then he was a chosen one.

He was overwhelming Eui-hyun, the only one with abilities, in front of him.

“Hahaha!”

Even as he entertained such thoughts, his body continued to overflow with power.

With this level of strength, he felt like he could fit within the palm of his hand at least within South Korea.

“Plead for mercy.”
