Chapter 180

Mikhail had managed to avoid getting his hands dirty, but this way was problematic.
“It seems I wasn’t the only enemy you had.”
“Y-you… ngh, you… will …”
“It’s hard to even speak, isn’t it?”
His focus was fading in his green eyes, so similar to hers.
Duke Loren stretched out his trembling hand, barely able to grasp the hem of his pants.
Watching the fading life in his eyes made Mikhail feel strange.
The moment he had been waiting for was so close, yet it brought him no joy. Instead, his heart pounded, and an unsettling feeling washed over him.
Mikhail spat out a curse. He swept his wet hair back and looked up at the ceiling.
If it was going to end like this, why had he lived so desperately? A life filled with revenge and anger now seemed to have ended in vain.
“…Your Grace. They left no trace.”
At Byne’s words, Mikhail tilted his head slightly.
“Head to the castle.”
There was only one person who would carry out such actions.

Emilia stared out the window, watching the procession of carriages leaving the Duke’s estate. She quietly stood up from her chair.
Turning her body toward the door, she slowly walked over to it. She turned the doorknob, but it didn’t open.
“I would like you to open the door.”
“I’m sorry. The Duke instructed us to make sure you don’t leave the room.”
Emilia smiled faintly at the voice of the knight coming from beyond the door.
They would never open it. She might be trapped in the room until Mikhail returns.
She couldn’t stay here without confirming her mother’s death. He wouldn’t change.
Even if she was carrying a child, his hatred would remain the same as before.
Emilia lifted her gaze to the ceiling.
‘He told me to abandon my family.’
If her mother had died, there was no reason to endure any longer. Mikhail wouldn’t need her anymore.
Her father wouldn’t suffer whether she lived or died.
Emilia turned her body toward the bed. She opened the drawer beside it.
Seeing the dagger still there made her smile. Had she been accepting and obedient for this moment?
It was the same dagger she had hidden, intending to stab him and kill him. Initially, she realized that it wouldn’t be enough to end his life, but it also became something she would use to take her own life. However, at some point, she stopped thinking about dying.
Her dress was too uncomfortable to move in. She ripped the skirt with a knife, making it much easier to move.
Most of the knights had already left the Duke’s estate, following Mikhail, leaving only two knights to block her exit. But if luck was against her, she might end up facing dozens of knights.
All she needed to do was get out of the estate. Everything else could be dealt with once she was free.
Emilia twisted the doorknob again. As expected, it was tightly locked.
There was nothing in the room that could be broken. Emilia’s gaze shifted toward the window.
She placed the dagger against the corner of the window and struck it with her palm.
Crash!
The glass shattered, and fragments scattered in all directions.
“What was that? What sound was that… Madam! Has someone broken in?”
“Shouldn’t we open the door immediately?”
The knights’ panicked voices came from outside.
Emilia didn’t stop and smashed the glass of the other window.
Crash!
Once again, a sharp crack filled the room.
“Open the door now! If something happens while the Duke is away… damn it!”
“Hurry, hurry, open the door… Butler!”
The knights’ urgent shouts echoed through the room. Emilia quickly took a deep breath and screamed as loudly as she could.
“AAAHHHH!”
“Madam!”
Through the hurried sounds from beyond the door, the doorknob started to turn.
Emilia immediately pressed her back against the door. Soon, with frantic voices, the knights burst into the room.
“Madam!”
“She must have gone out through the window!”
They rushed in, desperately searching for Emilia. As they approached the window, she quickly grabbed the doorknob and pulled herself outside.
“Gah! Madam! You can’t!”
Thud.
Emilia slammed the door shut and stepped back, kicking the doorknob off its hinges.
“Madam! Open the door!”
“Break down the door! Madam!”
Emilia turned her head to look at Kartho.
He had frozen, caught off guard by the sudden turn of events.
“Butler, are you planning to stop me?”
Emilia brandished the dagger and aimed it at Kartho’s throat.
“…Madam, please calm down.”
“Do I look calm? No child would remain sane after hearing that their parents were murdered.”
“The Duke must have a plan. Aren’t you curious about where your mother is?”
Kartho’s words made Emilia sneer. It was Mikhail who wouldn’t let her see her mother. He wouldn’t leave her mother unharmed until she arrived.
Emilia was tired of everything now.
“It no longer matters. Since I’ve decided to abandon my family, I’m no longer a Loren, am I?”
“…Madam.”
“Now there’s no reason for him to hate me. And I have no reason to feel guilty anymore.”
At Emilia’s words, Kartho lowered his head.
“Kartho, don’t make me get my hands dirty.”
