Mikhail chuckled.

“That’s enough of a joke.”

“Madam had a dagger. The very same dagger Your Grace said didn’t need to be removed.”

“So, are you asking me to believe that she fought the Duke’s knights and escaped with just that dagger?”

“…How could we possibly injure Madam? She acted so forcefully, even going as far as to harm herself.”

“With the rain pouring, she couldn’t have gone far.”

“I’m sorry! We couldn’t fight her. We were told to protect her, so we couldn’t harm her.”

The knights lowered their heads. Seeing their bodies, it was clear they had been cut.

‘Had she made up her mind?’

She hadn’t been ruthless when he told her to abandon her family, but it seemed leaving him was easy for her.

“Kartho, you must have prepared for the consequences of today’s events.”

“…Everyone will receive their punishment.”

“Does Boestin know about this?”

“Yes, she witnessed it.”

“Could she not know? The estate was in such an uproar.”

Dahlia spoke with a mocking tone. She stood by the railing, wearing a shawl and smiled broadly.

“Isn’t it fortunate? With the rain pouring, it wouldn’t be strange if she died somewhere. Now, Brother won’t have to stain your hands with blood.”

“Dahlia.”

“It’s the path she chose. She abandoned you and chose her family, didn’t she?”

She looked puzzled. She came down the stairs and grabbed Mikhail.

“Why are you doing this? What exactly… What did that woman say to Brother? To us, she’s just the daughter of our enemy. Are you regretting it now?”

“…Regret?”

He had never regretted it. From the very beginning, their meeting had been wrong, so what good would regret do?

“Are you feeling guilty then, if you don’t regret it anymore? Because you’ve learned that she carries the blood of the Loren family, but doesn’t know anything about it? Get a grip! She still grew up enjoying the benefits, didn’t she? She trampled on others’ misfortune to grow up happy!”

Dahlia hissed, her breathing grew ragged and strained.

“Dahlia, take care of yourself.”

“My body, my business! Brother, get a grip. Don’t forget what we’ve been running for all this time.”

Her grip on his sleeve tightened.

“I want her dead. I wish she’d just disappear from my sight so that Brother won’t think about anything else.”

Her red eyes glinted with something dangerous.

“If you think about her, I’ll curse her every day. Until the Loren family is wiped out, until everyone who carries Konrad’s blood is gone.”

The veins in her eyes bulged, and her trembling body, coupled with her intense expression, made it hard to breathe.

How far would she go before she was satisfied?

No, this child would never know satisfaction.

She had never learned how to be satisfied in the first place.

Mikhail pulled Dahlia’s hand away.

“Call Boestin.”

“Yes, yes!”

The maid, who had been watching, hurriedly ran up to the third floor.

“Let go of me! Am I wrong? If the Loren family hadn’t participated in the rebellion, if Konrad hadn’t become king, they wouldn’t have the power and wealth they have now, right? It’s unjust, and it should be given up!”

Dahlia didn’t stop. The resentment and hatred lodged deep in her heart were absolute.

They were the foundation for how they had survived day after day, so it was only natural.

Mikhail wasn’t any different, after all.

Kartho, who had been watching them, cautiously spoke up.

“…Madam said she’s going to abandon her family. She also said there’s no reason to stay here because she’s no longer part of the Loren family.”

Abandon her family?

She didn’t even know the Duke had died yet, and hearing her talk about abandoning her family caught him off guard.

Has her father’s presence faded from her mind?

He recalled how her gaze had gone vacant when she heard the news of her mother’s death. Duke Loren had never seemed to truly belong to her family circle.

She had been abandoned, and by the time she learned all the truth, she might have already let go of the Loren family.

“Your Grace, there’s no reason for you to hate yourself anymore, and Madam has no reason to feel guilty, so she said she would leave.”

“…Who decided that?”

At that moment, Boestin came down the stairs. Her expression wasn’t good, and it seemed she had quickly figured out the situation.

“Take Dahlia upstairs. Didn’t you say she needs to rest?”

“…Dahlia, let’s go.”

“I don’t want to!”

“Staying here won’t change anything. It’s not good for you to keep provoking her.”

Boestin tried to calm Dahlia. Dahlia glared at Mikhail with tears welling in her eyes.

“You’ve changed, Brother. I don’t need someone who doesn’t care for their own family.”

Dahlia shrugged off Boestin’s hand and climbed the stairs.

“Kartho.”

At Mikhail’s cold voice, everyone tensed. The air around him felt charged with danger.

It seemed that if they triggered his bad mood, there might be consequences.

“Why didn’t you stop her?”

“I thought she would immediately slit her wrist if I tried to stop her. Miss Boestin said that. It would be better for her to leave alive than leave a body behind.”

She was right. If it had been Emilia, she would have slit her throat without hesitation.
