Moreover, the royal family was the one who declared they would tolerate it, so no one could predict how the Duke would react.

Adrian gently traced the rim of his teacup and spoke.

“Mother, the fact that they’ve started paying attention means they’ve begun to take notice of me, which is a good thing, right?”

“Adrian! I don’t understand why you always make things worse by doing unnecessary things.”

Making things worse was more of his mother’s specialty than his. Adrian shrugged and crossed his legs.

“Staying quiet won’t change anything. If we fuel the fear of the Duke, the nobility will start to control his growing influence, won’t they?”

“So what exactly have you done? All you’ve managed is having the Loren family watched and wiped out?”

“Thanks to that, fear has been instilled. Most of the evidence will have been wiped away because of the rain, so even if someone from the royal family acted, no one will believe it.”

“The Duke led knights to the Loren family’s estate, so there must have been witnesses.”

“Do you think the people who acted on behalf of the royal family were seen?”

“Shadows moved, so no one would have witnessed anything.”

“What exactly are you thinking?”

“First, we need to make it clear who’s in control. This can’t go on like this.”

Once they realize the bloodline of Bayern still exists, even if not everyone rises up, a fair number will.

And if that bloodline flows through Duke Heinrich as well, the balance of power in this place will change in an instant.

He hadn’t been driven by greed, but he wasn’t foolish enough to simply give up what he had gained.

“Hasn’t a lot changed after imitating the actions of the Spiegel newspaper?”

“It has. Your reputation has certainly improved.”

“But that won’t give you the power you want, Mother.”

“If only I could keep that child named Dahlia by your side, things would be perfect.”

“About that… maybe a good opportunity will arise.”

Adrian tapped the table with his fingers and smiled.

“The Duke’s opinion will probably not align with Dahlia, the child who carries the blood of Bayern.”

“Why do you think that?”

“The Duke can’t let go of Emilia. But from Dahlia’s perspective, the daughter of the enemy family won’t be someone she welcomes.”

“So their relationship will falter?”

“Dahlia von Bayern. If that’s her name, the Duke will try to protect her. And they haven’t gotten what they want yet.”

Anyone who carries Konrad’s blood must be ousted for it to end.

The Loren family had already been wiped out.

But thinking about it, Emilia von Loren had done nothing wrong.

If anything, her only crime was being born into that family by bad luck.

“Find a way to approach Dahlia. The relationship between the Duke and Emilia must have already soured by now.”

“I heard that Duchess Loren hasn’t been found yet… is that going to be a problem?”

“Do you know who took Duchess Loren?”

Adrian smirked.

“Duke Heinrich took her. Once Emilia finds out, she won’t be able to stay by his side.”

Adrian felt good. The gloomy sky with rain falling suited his mood.

“There was someone at the Loren family estate who wasn’t a royal. He let him go.”

“The Duke didn’t say anything about it.”

“Of course, since I’m keeping him. He’ll testify about what happened at the Loren estate.”

“…That’s a relief. I’ll arrange for a meeting with Dahlia.”

“That’s all I need. What you need to do is done.”

Adrian stood up.

“You didn’t bring another woman into your room, did you?”

“You’re worried about that when you’ve already given me the medicine?”

He chuckled and left the parlor. After dealing with the Duke, he planned to reduce his mother’s influence.

At this rate, the only one left to block his path would be his own mother.

❖ ❖ ❖

The issue with the Chevron family quieted down after a rebuttal article was published.

The problem was that Count Chevron, who had seemed to be coming soon, was also silent.

‘I’ll need to send someone to investigate. The Duke doesn’t have the time to deal with these things right now.’

Kartho sighed. Since the Madam’s disappearance, the Duke’s estate hadn’t had a quiet day.

Whenever someone mentioned seeing something related to the color red, people immediately suspected it was a trace of the Madam.

Furthermore, this article…

“This is maddening. There’s no way to stop it.”

The thought that there was even a witness made his head ache. If he was going to inform the Duke, he felt like he needed to come up with a strategy first.

The summer was far from quiet at the Duke Heinrich’s estate.

A tragedy struck the Loren family. The King had married off Duke Heinrich to the Loren family’s daughter under the condition of accepting them, but in the end, Duke Heinrich brought them to ruin.

Along with the death of Duke Loren, many others at the estate also perished, and the only survivor was someone planted by Duke Heinrich.

The royal family claimed to have no knowledge of the events, and Duke Heinrich’s actions were deemed immoral, leading to a scandal.

There were rumors circulating that Duke Heinrich had shown signs of opposing the King.
