“No, but I felt like I had to come, so I stopped by. Is there anything uncomfortable?”

“No, thanks to you, I’m doing just fine.”

The man smiled lightly at Emilia’s words.

“Um… Marquis, they won’t be able to come this far, will they ?”

“Of course not. The fact that we haven’t been discovered until now means you don’t need to worry.”

“Madam, I’ve also prepared a warm soup today. Would you care to join us, Marquis?”

“How’s the morning sickness?”

“It’s much better now.”

Emilia shrugged at the Marquis’s words. If it hadn’t been for him, she would have been caught by the Duke long ago.

“Marquis Gepetto, did you happen to see the newspaper for today?”

“The rain soaked it, so I put it away. There wasn’t anything important. It seems the royal family hasn’t moved, so it seems Duke Heinrich hasn’t made it public yet.”

Emilia nodded.

Where she had hidden was the back streets of Delphora.

No one would have expected it. No one would think a noblewoman would hide in a brothel.

And it was here that she had an unexpected encounter.

It was Marquis Gepetto. After recognizing her, he immediately guided her inside the building.

The building, which seemed no different from any other brothel, led down to the basement, revealing another space.

It didn’t take long for her to realize what this building was hiding.

It was the Spiegel newspaper office. The very same newspaper office that no one could locate.

What was even more surprising was that Marquis Gepetto was the owner of the newspaper.

She hadn’t expected someone who had maintained neutrality to be actively involved in a newspaper opposing the royal family.

“It’s only fair since we now share secrets.”

“I don’t understand why you’re helping me. Are you really not going to tell the Duke?”

Marquis Gepetto nodded.

“It’s my duty to extend a hand to those who need help. More than that, if the king finds out about this, your situation will become quite difficult.”

“…And Duke Heinrich’s situation will become awkward as well.”

“That’s right. We still need a balance of power. Only Duke Heinrich can stop the king’s unreasonable actions.”

With Marquis Gepetto leading, those who had negative thoughts about the royal family gathered.

Perhaps due to the many civil wars and the closed-off nature of the country, they wished for reforms even if it meant losing their wealth and power.

He sympathized with what Emilia had gone through. She, too, was a victim of the power struggles.

Thanks to this, Emilia received help from an organization opposing the royal family.

As a result, Emilia, along with Dell, had successfully evaded Mikhail’s gaze and settled here.

At this rate, after giving birth to the child, running away abroad together might not be such an impossible plan after all.

❖ ❖ ❖

Emilia checked the newspaper articles every morning, carefully examining each sentence for any inconsistencies.

“How about changing this sentence? The nobles in the capital are very sensitive to such phrasing. We can’t afford to damage the Spiegel’s reputation.”

Since the nobility’s support was crucial, it was important to choose words that would not upset them.

The reporter nodded in agreement and immediately made the revisions.

Though Marquis Gepetto had told her to stay comfortably and relax, Emilia found that uncomfortable. So, she decided to take on something productive, and that was reviewing the articles.

It could be tiring to review unfamiliar documents, and sometimes she had long discussions with professional journalists, but it was far more enjoyable than doing nothing at the Duke’s estate.

She didn’t have to feel weighed down by guilt, and everyone treated her like an ordinary person.

Emilia dedicated herself even more to her tasks. Sometimes, she would leave the building with other ladies to deliver the newspapers.

It was a simple task of just leaving the papers at the designated time and place.

“Madam, you need to go into the city today. Will that be alright?”

“Rivella, don’t worry. I went just a few days ago.”

“Then please, be careful. The guards seem to be extra cautious due to recent events.”

Emilia nodded. Although it was Mikhail’s doing, the royal family was also keenly searching for the Spiegel newspaper’s office.

Since they never expected that Marquis Gepetto was the owner, he had always managed to evade any traps easily.

Thanks to that, he was also able to frequently bring her what she needed.

“By the way, I heard the Duke’s estate is making a lot of noise lately. Have you heard about it?”

Agatha, who had been standing nearby, lowered her voice while looking around. Emilia listened carefully.

“The Duke’s estate is noisy? Has something happened?”

If word had leaked that she had escaped, it could cause trouble. Most people, except for a few, believed Emilia to be an ordinary peasant woman who had fled from a violent husband.

If they found out she was Duchess Heinrich, they would likely react badly. That was why Marquis Gepetto had taken precautions in advance.

Like most people in the kingdom of Bartsch, the locals had a particularly negative perception of the royal family.

This group was formed by people who were skeptical of the monarchy regardless of the current or previous royal family, so they naturally shared that feeling
