Chapter 198

Soon, Dell left the room, leaving only a small light on.
“…This is a problem. I haven’t been able to sleep lately.”
Emilia was grateful for Dell’s efforts, but she couldn’t fall asleep. She tilted her body to the side and quietly stared at her empty finger.
The breeze from the open window caused the lantern’s flame to flicker, casting golden waves that seemed to color her red eyes.
She forced herself to close her eyes, trying to sleep.

Mikhail climbed into the carriage.
The investment for Baron Benjamin’s business had already been handled, so there was no need to worry about his stake being reduced by investing in the club.
What concerned him more was the rose scent that came from Marquis Gepetto.
“It was definitely the same scent as Emilia’s.”
Even when he thought about it, it felt similar. He decided that he would visit the Marquis’s house soon and closed his eyes.
However, the carriage had barely left Rosenmontag Street when it stopped.
Mikhail opened his eyes and looked outside, trying to check the surroundings.
But before he could, the door opened, and someone quickly climbed into the carriage.
At the sight of a drenched man entering, Mikhail’s face twisted.
“…Count Chevron?”
“Your Grace, forgive my rudeness. But I had no choice but to board in haste to avoid the attention of others.”
Count Chevron’s face looked gaunt, as if he had been through a lot.
“To avoid the royal family’s attention?”
“Yes, please help me.”
Count Chevron lowered his head and pleaded desperately.
“If this continues, my daughter will die. I cannot let the Chevron family perish like this.”
“Are you asking me to correct the article?”
Mikhail tilted his head slightly.
“You’re not stopping my carriage and boarding it without permission just to say that, are you?”
The Count’s face darkened further when he realized that Mikhail was in a worse mood than usual, but he remained determined, showing no signs of backing down.
“Yes, please show some mercy. My sister will not help us.”
“Why should I help you? After all, it was Lady Chevron who got me into trouble.”
“I apologize. I should have stopped her, but I lost focus for a moment… I have no excuse.”
“I still don’t understand why you’re coming to me now after being silent for so long.”
“I have information. If you restore my daughter’s honor, I will do anything.”
“…Information?”
If the Count had information, it could be valuable.
Mikhail studied Count Chevron’s face carefully.
“You know this would be an act of betrayal against the royal family, don’t you?”
“I am well aware.”
“I’m curious why you’re going this far.”
“For my only daughter. I’m her father, after all. Even though she’s a flawed daughter, she did it out of loyalty to the royal family, so please…”
“Loyalty to the royal family… Was that really all there was to it?”
There must have been another reason. Surely, the Count also carried out Lady Luther’s orders to secure his own position.
But now, abandoned and without anywhere else to turn, he probably came to Mikhail.
“Let’s go to the mansion. You didn’t bring a tail with you, did you?”
“Don’t worry. I’ve already taken precautions for that as well.”
Mikhail lightly nodded to Count Chevron’s words.
After returning to the Duke’s residence, Mikhail, along with Count Chevron, headed to the drawing room.
“I won’t beat around the bush. The royal family will soon begin cracking down on the group opposing the monarchy.”
“Are they planning to hunt them down?”
“Yes. They’ve already been secretly reported, and they intend to tie up and deal with those who are a thorn in their side.”
“And what does this have to do with me?”
Mikhail had never acted publicly. He had only secretly funded the group.
Since he hadn’t involved himself directly, there was no way anyone would know he was connected to the opposition group.
“They will likely put you at the forefront of this.”
“You mean the royal family will try to place me at the front?”
“They’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse.”
“They probably think I’m of Bayern blood.”
“Both my sister and the King are convinced of it. They just haven’t mentioned it to the nobles or the pro-royalist faction yet.”
“They’re letting doubt linger but not confirming it, I see.”
Perhaps no one would believe Lady Luther. The King wasn’t listening to her either, so by now, she must be feeling cornered.
“What do you think, Count? Do I really seem like someone who carries Bayern blood?”
Count Chevron hesitated for a moment, seemingly unsure of what answer would be in his favor.
“I don’t care who you are, Your Grace. The person who saves my daughter’s life is my benefactor, and I’ll be loyal to them from now on.”
Clever.
That wasn’t a bad answer. He hadn’t revealed his true identity.
So it was better not to mention that he might think of Mikhail as a Bayern.
“Continue.”
“My sister is a suspicious person. She doesn’t even trust her own son, so she won’t reveal her true thoughts to the nobles.”
Count Chevron seemed desperate. Mikhail listened closely as he shared everything he knew as if clinging to his last lifeline.
