He didn’t deserve to hold her. Inflicting pain on himself was the only thing he could do—the only atonement he had left.

“M-Mikhail… ah…!”

Emilia clutched his arm desperately, digging her nails into his shoulders and scratching his back, but he didn’t stop. Instead, he clung to her even more stubbornly.

“Everything… is my fault. You never did anything wrong.”

Emilia could only whimper in response, tears welling in her eyes. His words sounded strangely sorrowful.

If others heard her now, they might call her a fool. But all she saw was a lost man, towering yet broken.

“Emilia… Emilia… Tell me… what the hell am I supposed to do?”

I’ll do anything you ask. Just… don’t leave me again.

“Hah… ngh!”

A familiar sensation she had not felt in a long time, coursed through Emilia’s body. Her back arched as she reached her climax, her hips jerking uncontrollably.

Gasping, she weakly pulled him into her.

Her toes curled on their own, and a dull ache tightened in her lower abdomen.

“Hah… my stomach—ah, it hurts… ngh!”

Mikhail gently stroked her back.

“They say… a little pleasure is good for the baby. Don’t worry. I’ll be careful.”

A lie. That was definitely a lie.

As if forgetting she had already reached her climax, Emilia tried to push him away.

“Trying to escape like that… only makes me want you more.”

Mikhail caught her ankle, pressing a kiss to the top of her foot before dragging his tongue along her toes as if worshipping something precious.

“M-Mikhail… ngh, that’s dirty… What are you—”

“If I mark every inch of you… maybe no one else will dare touch you, even if you run away again.”

He wanted to lick and taste every part of her. The way she twitched at even the slightest touch made his c**k throb unbearably.

Though his hardened length ached in protest, he forced himself to ignore it. Tonight was only about Emilia.

As if keeping a silent promise to her, he drove Emilia to her climax over and over.

Adrian turned his body and looked at Dahlia.

The atmosphere had changed so much since their last meeting that it felt oddly unsettling.

“I thought our feelings were the same.”

“I never clearly said that with my own mouth, did I?”

“If you swore the blood oath, you shouldn’t waver.”

“But in the end, we didn’t do it.”

“Seeing that you lied to me, it seems you never intended to take my hand in the first place.”

“You’re right. You’re not a complete fool after all. Why would I take the hand of someone half-hearted?”

Dahlia crossed her arms and shot Adrian a glance.

“It’ll be difficult if you turn me into an enemy.”

“Just because our directions differ, I won’t take the hand of an enemy. If I can’t claim something with my own hands, it’s better not to take it at all.”

“You’ll never have it.”

“Maybe. But then, when I think about it, it seems like I’m losing out, doesn’t it? I’ll be the one left with nothing, but if the voices against the royal family grow louder, wouldn’t it make no difference whether I sit on that throne or not?”

“I thought sitting there was all that mattered. I guess you’re not just a lady.”

Dahlia smiled softly at Adrian’s words.

“You thought I would be content with just sitting on the throne like a half-hearted person?”

That was a ridiculous thought. If the throne was going to disappear anyway, it would be more beneficial not to sit in it. It would be far better for her to stand with the people and use public sentiment to her advantage.

There was nothing more humiliating than being dragged down. Dahlia had always hoped to remain the proud, admired royal.

She might have been an unfortunate woman, but through her, Dahlia’s desired path became clearer.

“What should I do?”

Adrian scratched his chin as if troubled.

“I already mentioned our engagement.”

But Adrian was one step ahead.

Dahlia tried to hold Adrian and continue their conversation.

“You’ve only mentioned it. Surely, you can retract it anytime, right?”

“You don’t not know the weight of the words spoken by a king.”

“Revoke it. If I say I didn’t agree, then that’s the end of it.”

“The royal family doesn’t have to listen to the words of nobility.”

Adrian’s tone was firm. If her brother knew, he would surely oppose it.

That would put the royal family in a difficult position. Yet, Adrian didn’t back down, suggesting he had some belief or backing.

Dahlia grew uneasy. How could she explain this to her brother?

“Didn’t your brother already reject this proposal?”

“The opinion of the person involved is what matters. Even if the Duke opposes it, if you want it, who can stop it?”

“Are you really going to push this through?”

“You’ll see.”

Adrian turned to board the open carriage but turned back and grabbed Dahlia’s hand.

He lightly kissed the back of her hand and flashed a smile.

Dahlia lowered her eyes at his action and pulled out a handkerchief, wiping the back of her hand as though it had touched something dirty.

“Well then. I’ll go in now.”

“You haven’t even had your debutante yet. Soon, you’ll get good news.”

“Such…!”

Dahlia frowned and tried to stop Adrian from leaving.

However, the carriage door closed. Before she could approach, the carriage had already started to move.

She stood in the garden, staring blankly at the carriage disappearing into the distance.
