Boestin and Dell got up from their seats and headed toward the back door.

“Are you really sure about this?”

“I have to be. If they kill me, it might spark a war between countries. They won’t make such a foolish choice.”

Boestin was a person from Valoh, so if the royal family directly intervened against her, things would get complicated.

She had even sent a letter to a close friend, saying that if she didn’t make contact for a day, it would mean someone had taken her life, and to alert Valoh.

She had sent it to Princess Eponsen, who had almost been betrothed to Adrian, meaning many people were now tangled in this affair.

“So if Mikhail’s plan fails, it’s going to be chaos.”

Boestin naturally climbed into another carriage with Dell.

The three of them left the city and headed toward a villa. Though they moved discreetly, it felt as natural as flowing water.

“Do you think they’ll really follow us?”

“Well, we’ll see. I hope they fell for it. It’s scary because we don’t know anything about the king’s shadows.”

“They serve the king. They are known for their exceptional swordsmanship and mercilessness.”

“They won’t hesitate to kill.”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“…You can lie to me now.”

“Sorry.”

Byne lowered his head with a guilty look. Boestin waved it off.

Suddenly, the carriage shook, and a sword suddenly pierced through the wall.

“Ah! That’s not okay! You never said the sword would break through the carriage wall!”

She screamed, clutching Dell. It seemed this crazy king really intended to kill them.

“Keep your head down!”

At Byne’s shout, the two got off their seats and bowed their heads.

“How long do we have to stall?”

Boestin’s eyes widened as she asked Byne.

“Ahh!”

The carriage lost balance and shook wildly. The driver seemed unable to control it.

“It’s going to tip over!”

At Boestin’s shout, Byne grabbed the carriage door.

“Take off your wigs.”

They quickly removed their wigs and tucked them under their skirts.

Then Byne opened the carriage door and shouted outside,

“Who goes there! There are guests from Valoh in this carriage! Is this how foreigners are treated in Bartsch?”

At his shout, the carriage, which had been racing endlessly, suddenly stopped.

Soon, the driver fell to the ground, covered in blood.

Byne stepped out, gripping the sword at his waist and looked around cautiously.

Boestin and Dell followed him out. She hid her trembling and acted as if shedding tears.

“Oh my! A robbery in Bartsch? If I had died, Eponsen would have found it suspicious and pressured Bartsch. Luckily, I’m alive, so no war will break out.”

“Miss, it’s dangerous here. I think we should turn back.”

“Should we? Sir Byne, the nice scenery can wait for another time.”

“You must have been quite startled. We should return now. I’ll drive the carriage, so please get inside.”

Boestin nodded. Before getting back on the carriage, she glanced at the hole in the wall.

‘Mikhail, you bastard.’

Recalling the near-death experience, she made a silent vow to claim multiple times the compensation she deserved.

❖ ❖ ❖

Perhaps because it was the royal prison, it was better than she expected.

The knights who had been recruited stood firmly guarding the doors. No one knew how long preparations had been underway, but it was clear they were thoroughly ready.

“It’s livable, considering it’s a prison.”

“I was worried, but Brother prepared it well. Honestly, I was unsure how we’d survive until the relocation.”

Dahlia breathed a sigh of relief and looked around.

Of course, compared to a normal prison, it was better, but discomforts remained.

“…We’ll be fine for these two weeks, right?”

“We have to believe so.”

As she sat on the small bed, it creaked.

For a moment, the two fell silent. The atmosphere became heavy.

In truth, staying in the prison wasn’t the real problem.

The real challenge was to endure the relocation without Adrian or Lady Luther finding out.

“After the relocation, simultaneous uprisings will break out. The royal knights will be overwhelmed and unable to respond.”

“I heard the nobles will join. I worry whether the castle gates will open.”

“I believe some at court will side with us and help. If they betray us, that will be a problem…”

If needed, she might have to personally open the gates. With the recruited knights starting a revolt inside, chaos would follow.

In that chaos, the gates could be opened somehow.

“We’ve been through this once before, so we know everything.”

More importantly, Dahlia and Mikhail knew this castle well. That was why the Stein family’s downfall had been so swift and pointless.

The difference this time was that the people were united.

“When the monarchy falls, a new era will come. At least, it’ll be better than now.”

No matter how things changed, they had to believe it would improve.

“The king’s shadows must have moved. I hope it goes as planned.”

“They must have followed the carriage right behind. How would they guess we’re hiding in the royal prison?”

Emilia shrugged lightly. Seeing Dahlia nervous, she acted as if she wasn’t worried.
