Chapter 250

“The villain who led Bartsch to ruin! Tch!”
People spit and threw stones at him.
“If I had known it would end like this, I’d have done it right from the start.”
He bowed his head, accepting death humbly.
“Finally, peace will come to Bartsch.”
“Yeah! The royal family is dissolved! Freedom for Bartsch!”
The crowd cheered.
Once the executions ended, people turned away as if nothing had happened.
❖ ❖ ❖
Emilia left the manor wrapped in a shawl.
“So many?”
How long were they planning to stay?
Emilia had never been to Bromley, located in southern Bartsch. According to Dell, its warm and mild climate gave the sea an emerald hue.
The carriage was loaded with luggage. Dell smiled excitedly.
“You really like it?”
“Of course!”
Emilia laughed as if she couldn’t help herself, then gazed quietly at the manor.
“Look, the Miss is coming out too!”
Dell pointed out Dahlia, supported by Byne, leaving the house.
“Are you sure you’re okay, Miss?”
“I’m fine. It’s a good place to recuperate, so how could I not go?”
Dahlia smiled as if to say she was fine.
“You’ve improved a lot, but don’t push yourself.”
“I know. Stop nagging.”
“I’m not nagging. I’m worried because you’re not taking care of yourself.”
“That’s nagging. I can even walk now without problems.”
“The doctor said no.”
“Both the doctor and Sir Byne are so frustrating—people will think we’re married.”
Dahlia shook her head.
“We’re not married, but close enough. So I’m qualified to say that.”
“W-what?”
“You two look close.”
“No, we don’t!”
Dahlia blushed. Dell watched the two and then whispered quietly to Emilia,
“You two seem closer. Sir Byne can’t leave Miss’ side.”
“Right? I think Dahlia’s heart is opening up too.”
Though still in denial, she seemed gentler than before.
“Jealous?”
“When did you get here?”
Emilia turned to Mikhail, who had approached her.
“It’s a little late. Maybe we should’ve come alone.”
“I like the crowd.”
Emilia shook her head. Going with him alone or with everyone else felt different, but for now, this was better.
They had never traveled alone before, but there would be chances.
“Next time, just the two of us.”
“I’m not sure if there’ll be a next time, but if you want, then sure.”
Mikhail nodded.
Reaching the carriage, he reached for her hand. She placed hers in his and boarded.
As the carriage doors closed, the ducal carriage set off toward Bromley.
“When will we return?”
Usually, vacations lasted one or two months. Emilia was already well into her pregnancy.
By the time they returned, she might be close to giving birth.
“I suppose whenever you want to come back.”
“And if I don’t want to?”
“Then that place becomes our home.”
Starting fresh somewhere new wasn’t so bad.
They finally arrived at Bromley, located at the southern edge.
Though stiff and tired, Emilia forgot all fatigue the moment they reached the manor.
“So this is what…”
Emilia thought she understood what he had meant when he said, “You’ll like it here.” The roses of the Loren family were in full bloom.
“I thought they were all gone. Did you just transplant them from the estate?”
“They grow well here. I wanted only good memories for you.”
“…Thank you.”
Suddenly, a kick from inside made her bow her head.
“Just now…”
“Is something wrong?”
Emilia took his hand and placed it on her belly.
“The baby kicked.”
“The baby?”
Mikhail couldn’t take his eyes off her belly.
“Again! I guess the baby likes it here.”
“…”
He said nothing, but his red eyes flickered.
“Just kicked again.”
His voice was a little louder. Mikhail bent down and placed both hands on her belly.
“Have you decided on a name?”
“We should decide together. Let’s think about it here in Bromley.”
Mikhail nodded.
“It seems you like it here. Planning to have the baby and stay?”
“Yes, I like it here.”
She liked everything—the garden, the manor, even the sea view.
❖ ❖ ❖
Bromley was warm. Though autumn had come, the mild sun ruled the day.
Emilia lay in a hammock set in the garden.
Dell’s snacks were excellent. Though the manor had a skilled chef, Emilia had gotten used to Dell’s cooking and preferred it.
“Today’s treat is cream cheese fig cake.”
The richness of the cheese and juicy figs delighted her palate.
As her body grew, her movements slowed, so Mikhail didn’t leave her alone. He kept close watch to prevent injury.
Only when Boestin barely stopped him did he relent and give her some freedom.
“Where’s Boestin?”
“She’s off inspecting nearby lands.”
“…Looks like she’s found another place to invest.”
“With so many travelers coming by train from Valoh, she thinks this is a good resort location.”
Emilia nodded. Bromley was a place anyone who visited would fall in love with. She herself did not want to return to Emmental.
“Does Madam not want to go back?”
“For now, I still have to.”
Here, she might feel lonely. Few lived here, and news from the capital arrived slowly, making time in Bromley feel slow.
“Where’s Miss Dahlia?”
“They went down to the beach today. She even asked for sandwiches.”
Winter wouldn’t come to Bromley.
“Looks like she’s happier away from me.”
