“They’re starting to come to terms with reality, making practical proposals. As the business expands, more jobs are created and it’ll ease the citizens’ worries.”
“That’s a relief.”
“How long do you plan to stay here?”
“As long as I want to.”
“Looks like you might not come back at all.”
“Maybe so.”
“Mikhail, it’s about to start.”
Emilia approached the two. He naturally took Eckart.
“Don’t hold him if your wrist hurts.”
“This isn’t so bad.”
“It is. You struggled yesterday too.”
“…Mikhail!”
Emilia’s cheeks turned red. Their whispered conversation made Marquis Gepetto cough awkwardly nearby.
Even if he didn’t want to hear, his ears were too sharp.
He said, frowning.
“Why not take your couple talk somewhere else? Do I not count as a person?”
“If you’re jealous, get married soon yourself.”
Mikhail was shameless. Emilia hid her flushed face behind a fan but didn’t let go of his hand.
“I’m actually starting to think about marriage now. Seeing couples so happy like you two.”
The Marquis smiled, looking between Emilia and Mikhail.
“Jealousy’s got me thinking I should get married soon, too.”
He swapped his wine glass and headed toward his table.
❖ ❖ ❖
After the wedding, people stayed at the townhouses for a few days to enjoy Bromley’s beauty.
The sun set, darkness settled, but the party went on.
‘I wasn’t at ease back then.’
At Dahlia and Byne’s engagement, she felt like an uninvited guest.
Now, she blessed the couple more than anyone, enjoying the party. Music played nonstop, laughter filled the mansion.
“You should stop drinking.”
“I only had a little.”
Mikhail put a hand on her cheek, frowning.
“Your face is red. Maybe some cold air will help.”
“Okay.”
Emilia snuggled close, linking arms as they stepped outside. The cool breeze brushed her cheeks, clearing her head a bit.
Breathing in the scent of grass carried on the wind.
“Ah, this feels nice.”
The happiness made her nervous, but after working so hard for it, she felt it wouldn’t be taken away so easily.
“Are you alright?”
His concerned gaze met hers. The wine hit her quickly after a long time.
“I must’ve drunk too much because I feel so good. Am I too red?”
“Not at all.”
His warm hand on her cheek made her melt softly.
“And even if you’re red, it suits you. You look beautiful no matter what.”
His kind eyes on her still felt unfamiliar. When his red eyes curved softly, it was even more striking.
“….You know it’s really awkward at times like this, right?”
But she didn’t hate it—in fact, her heart fluttered. She felt truly loved.
“Stop staring at me.”
Emilia blushed and said softly. She hadn’t expected him to be so expressive.
He realized her feelings and went overboard, leaving her to handle it.
“I’ve got something to show you.”
Mikhail grabbed her hand and led her into the garden’s greenhouse.
“Why here?”
“Come in.”
He carefully pulled her inside.
Inside the greenhouse looked no different from any other, and Emilia’s face showed confusion.
“Mikhail?”
He held her hand and moved toward the center.
“Look up.”
Emilia slowly raised her head.
The greenhouse’s ceiling was open, revealing the sky.
Stars twinkled against the black sky.
“There are so many stars in Bromley.”
“You wanted to show me this?”
“I thought you’d like it.”
“I love it.”
Emilia kissed Mikhail lightly on the cheek. He wrapped his arms around her and pressed his lips against hers.
The sharp scent of alcohol on his warm breath made her head swim again.
“Huff.”
Showing her the stars wasn’t his only intention. How long had it been since they last kissed?
She willingly returned his kiss. The flesh entering her mouth gently stirred inside.
He supported her back firmly, careful not to hurt her. His face buried in her neck and he smiled mischievously.
“No one will come here.”
“How do you know that?”
Emilia gasped at his hands caressing her legs. She was already so used to him that just a touch made her body heat up.
“This is a place for you and me.”
“You didn’t make this just for that, did you?”
“Heh, well, yes.”
He laughed broadly. Emilia leaned on the table, a cold breeze slipping under her slightly curled skirt.
“Ah…”
Mikhail stroked her back lightly and kissed her collarbone deeply.
He kissed her delicate shoulders as if they were precious. Then he grabbed her fragile ankle, lifting it.
Her body leaned back onto his waist.
He spread her legs wide by holding her calves and leaned in close.
