I.

I fell in love at first sight.

It didn’t matter that he was the heir to a rival house.

I was a daughter of House Heister, and he was the heir to our sworn enemy, House Baldomer.

My feelings began with a chance and seemingly insignificant act of kindness, but to me, it was the moment my entire world shifted.

Curiosity, interest, and love took root. And he became my light and my breath.

And so… I spent ten years loving him alone.

When I was married to him through a transaction between our houses, I thought it was an opportunity.

It didn’t matter whether it was a transaction between our houses or whether I had been offered as a sacrifice.

I was happy simply because I could be with him.

But he wasn’t.

“We will share a bed only on the appointed days. Outside of that, I want neither interference nor interest of any kind.”

To him, I was merely the daughter of an enemy house and a hostage who had been sold to him.

Even so, I was fine with it.

I barely saw his face even once a month. Even then, it was half hidden in darkness and deeply contorted.

But in those moments, the shallow gasps he let out above me, his rough breathing, made me feel as though he wanted me, and I welcomed even that.

If we continued joining our bodies like this.

If I continued staying by his side

Someday.

Yes, someday, he would understand my sincerity.

A day would come when he would look at me and smile, even if only once.

That was what I thought.

“The Madam is with child.”

When I became pregnant with his child, I felt as though I had gained the entire world.

I thought that even someone as indifferent as he was would be at least a little pleased.

But he…

“There is one more Heister now.”

He merely tossed out those words in a tone that made it clear he found the matter terribly bothersome.

Not Heister’s blood, but your blood.

Our child…

I felt sorry that even my child might be hated by him because of the Heister blood flowing through my veins.

I felt guilty.

But the child who was born into the world became a new light.

He was my own sun, brighter and more precious than that man.

The child grew and flourished, shining even more brightly.

His tiny, fidgeting hands, his little lips moving softly. Those clear and transparent eyes that stared straight up at me.

They brought me a happiness and fulfillment that could not be compared to anything else in the world.

My child, Denion.

That child was a gift and blessing sent to me by heaven.

But…

“Ah…”

When I looked down at that child after his breathing had stopped.

“Aaaah…”

When I held that small hand that had gone cold.

“Ah, aaaah…”

My sky came crashing down.

It felt as though the world were shattering into pieces.

My beloved Denion. My light, my son…

I couldn’t acknowledge it. The child’s death.

I couldn’t accept it. That he no longer existed in this world.

That my child had been murdered…

“Kallion! Denion was murdered! Your son and mine was murdered!”

I clutched the legs of his trousers and clung to him like a madwoman. I begged him to find the person who had killed our child.

But he merely pulled my hands away and spoke coldly.

“Don’t make baseless assumptions, Juliana.”

At those cold words, my heart chilled as though it had been doused in ice water.

I alone knew the truth.

Denion had been murdered. Because of the ability carried by House Heister.

Because my ability had been passed down to Denion…!

I wandered from place to place like a madwoman.

I was half out of my mind as I tried to find the person who had killed my child.

Kallion treated me like a bothersome piece of baggage and locked me inside my room.

“Let me out! Kallion! You piece of s**t! Let me out!”

There was no longer any affection or love left for him.

Only resentment and fury remained.

To me, he had now become the most horrific being in the world.

“Stay quietly in that room as though you don’t exist. That will be better for you.”

“Kallion!”

The door had been sealed with Baldomer’s power, and I could not open it with my own. Trapped inside that room, I lived like a soulless doll.

Several days passed without me so much as glancing at the food or water.

Then, the moment I saw the knife placed beside the food a maid had brought me, I couldn’t resist the impulse.

I did not have the strength to endure a life without Denion.

So, alone and lonely in that room, I closed my eyes.

When I regained consciousness, I had returned to the age of twenty.

Before I married Kallion.
