Chapter 68
At my question, one of Kallion’s eyebrows drew down.
So Layla did give it to him.
The situation had become so tiresome that I lost even the desire to keep speaking, and a hollow laugh escaped me.
He glared at me and growled.
“Are you trying to shift the blame onto someone else in a situation like this?”
Shift the blame?
Who was blaming whom?
What exactly am I in your mind?
No.
Why are all of you so desperate to torment me when I said I would simply keep to myself?
Will this exhausting situation only end once I die and disappear?
Was my one simple wish of having Denion really too much for me to ask?
I only wanted to quietly…
I said I would live quietly, almost as though I weren’t here at all, and then disappear.
So why do all of you keep…!
“Why did you stop? Finish what you were saying. Blame Layla or whatever you want, I’ll hear all of it first.”
I glared directly at Kallion and spat out my words through clenched teeth.
“Go ask Layla. I think that woman will explain it better than I can.”
“That man already told me everything.”
“……?”
“The second son of Silverstel, the man you supposedly took as your lover. He already told me everything.”
I couldn’t understand.
Why would Lloyd tell such a lie?
“I don’t want to hear anything more from you.”
I turned away as I said that, but he roughly grabbed me and stopped me.
“Why? Do you want to believe he would never do something like that? If what he said isn’t true, then tell me with your own mouth. Tell me what the truth is!”
Something suddenly surged up from deep inside me.
It was an old, bitter rage I hadn’t even known was there.
“What do you expect me to tell you when you won’t believe anything I say anyway! Even if I tell you the truth, you won’t listen, so what exactly do you want from me!”
Kallion froze for a moment at my outburst.
Then he slowly moved his lips.
“I’ll ask you only this.”
My chest rose and fell with my ragged breathing.
I hated the man standing in front of me so much I could hardly bear it.
“Did you ever like me?”
Did I like you?
Once.
Once, I did.
“No.”
But the young Juliana who loved you died a long time ago.
“I hate you.”
Now, the only me left is the one who hates you.
So the version of me who loved you no longer exists.
For an instant, Kallion’s expression twisted strangely.
He looked angry.
Or perhaps hurt.
The thought of him being hurt was absurd.
Kallion stared at me and spoke in a hollow voice.
“Right. I know.”
He murmured as though speaking to himself, then gave a bitter scoff.
“You’ve told me that several times already.”
Then why had he asked?
What had he wanted to hear?
I didn’t care to know, but I couldn’t understand his behavior.
“I understand now that you’re this vicious a woman.”
As he said that, he suddenly released the wrist he had been holding and shoved me onto the bed.
My legs caught against the edge of the bed, and I fell onto it.
Looking down at me, he began unbuttoning his shirt.
“What are you doing right now?”
I frowned as I asked.
With a murderous look in his eyes, he answered indifferently.
“Why? Isn’t tonight the night you kept going on about? Or now that you’ve achieved your goal, do you no longer need to sleep with me?”
He had been undoing the buttons one by one, but apparently losing his temper, he grabbed both sides of his shirt and tore it open.
With a series of little pops, the buttons fell helplessly to the floor.
He stripped off the bothersome shirt and tossed it aside, then glared at me with dangerous eyes.
They were the eyes of a beast that looked ready to tear out my throat.
I met his gaze without backing down.
Perhaps this was better.
It was a night we had to spend together, one way or another.
Whatever happened in the process didn’t matter to me.
I squeezed my eyes shut.
Perhaps he had expected me to resist, because I heard him let out an incredulous breath.
It doesn’t matter.
I only desperately hoped that this one time would be enough for that child to come to me.
At the sight of me resigned like a condemned prisoner awaiting execution, he cursed under his breath.
My complete submission without even resisting seemed to provoke him even more.
“Damn it.”
When nothing happened despite the murderous tension, I slowly opened my eyes.
His gaze was wavering with some inexplicable heat.
Then, with his brow furrowed viciously, he spat out the words in a badly hoarse voice.
“Lift your skirt and bend over, Juliana.”
He undid the buckle of his trousers and growled in a hoarse voice.
“I’ll give you what you want.”
