At the appointed time, I went to Layla’s room and knocked carefully.

But there was no sound from beyond the slightly open door.

Entering an empty room without its owner made me somewhat uneasy.

But normally, if one arrived at an agreed meeting place first, it was only natural to wait for the other person.

Layla had also told me beforehand that she might be a little late because of work, and that I could wait inside her room.

After hesitating, I carefully opened the door and stepped inside.

It was the room Kallion had reacted so violently to and warned me never to enter again.

This room, where he spent time alone with Layla, must have been both a secret space and something shameful to him.

But today, I was entering because the owner of the room had invited me.

I wondered whether there was really any need to have tea in this particular room.

But she had said there was something important she needed to tell me here, so I simply accepted it.

The fact that it apparently needed to be discussed so secretly only made me more interested.

Perhaps she simply wanted to show off the intimate room she shared with Kallion.

If that was the reason, I had nothing to be bothered about.

I didn’t care what Kallion and Layla did in this room.

If Layla’s brief sense of superiority made her reveal information about Baldomer to me, then the benefits far outweighed the disadvantages.

Thinking that, I entered and slowly looked around.

The room looked exactly as it had the last time.

It still appeared to be a bedroom that had been used regularly.

Ironically, however, nothing had changed since that day, as though no one had entered it since.

Then, just as I closed the door, a framed portrait balanced precariously on the edge of a table near the door fell to the floor.

Crash—

The frame struck the floor with a loud noise, scattering shards of glass.

I had no idea why it had been left hanging over the edge of the table like that.

Startled, I hurriedly picked it up.

And then I finally saw the person in the portrait, whom I hadn’t noticed before.

Inside was a black-haired woman I had never seen, sitting with an elegant bearing.

No matter how I looked at her, she wasn’t Layla.

As I stood frozen in confusion, the door suddenly flew open.

I turned around in surprise.

Kallion and Layla stood there with rigid expressions, staring in my direction.

More precisely, they were staring at the broken frame in my hands.

I stood there blankly, unable to understand what was happening.

Then Kallion suddenly strode toward me and snatched the frame from my hands.

Because he took it so abruptly before I could react, the broken glass sliced my hand.

“Ah…”

Blood dripped from my fingertips.

When he saw the blood running from my fingers, his shoulders flinched.

Then he frowned.

“I warned you not to come into this room.”

I was the one bleeding.

So I couldn’t understand why he looked angry while staring at my hand.

Was he angry because I had entered the room?

Because the blood from my hand was staining it?

Or both?

“Why can’t you ever just listen to what I tell you?”

His gaze was filled with anger, irritation, distrust, and contempt.

My own mood soured.

I couldn’t understand why he was reacting so excessively.

“I entered because the owner of the room invited me.”

“The owner of the room invited you?”

At my calm answer, Kallion let out an incredulous breath.

Then his expression transformed into an anger that was difficult to describe.

“Are you mocking me?”

I couldn’t understand what had made him so angry.

Because I had invaded the private space he shared with Layla?

Because I had ignored his warning never to enter this room again?

Or because he was worried I might do something to Layla here?

As countless possibilities ran through my mind, my expression grew colder.

Kallion stared through me and growled quietly.

“What you’re saying right now… Are you telling me that my dead mother invited you here?”

It took me several moments to understand his words.

Then I froze like ice.

His dead mother?

Mother?

Was he saying this room belonged to his deceased mother?
