Chapter 16
When someone makes a shameless request, there are usually two reactions the other person can show. Surprise, or dumbfounded disbelief.
“Could you treat me?”
However, the moment Eden arrived home and thrust her arm out without warning, Bezel simply beamed and nodded as if he had been waiting for this.
“Yes! Of course.”
Not “I understand” but “Of course.” With him responding like that, Eden ended up being the one caught off guard.
Well, not that she wasn’t grateful for the treatment but… how to put it? Maybe it was because she was used to high priests who acted pretentious and charged high prices every day. Bezel’s appearance, like a gentle puppy wagging its tail, felt very unfamiliar.
“Oh, right. I picked this up on the way. You should change into it.”
Eden held out the shopping bag she had been carrying. Bezel quickly took the shopping bag, opened it, and his eyes went wide.
“You even bought shoes!”
“You need shoes to go outside. I can’t keep you inside the house all the time.”
Bezel stared at her with a deeply moved expression, then said he would change quickly and went into his room. Left alone in the living room, Eden sat down on the sofa and scratched her nose awkwardly.
When she told him to stay at her house for a while, he had followed along as if it was nothing, so she thought he would naturally accept the clothes too, but his reaction was more dramatic than expected. Watching him be happy made her feel somewhat proud for no reason.
‘Is this what it feels like to be a parent?’
Wait, hold on. That was strange. They hadn’t even been together that long and she was already talking like a parent. She kept comparing Bezel to a puppy, so without realizing it, she was seeing herself as a parent raising a dog.
‘Tch. It also feels like I’m a husband who’s brought home a wife and is taking care of her.’
Is this what it feels like to give a gift to a lucky charm of a wife waiting at home? Well, with such a pretty face like his, she could absolutely see herself saying, “Yes, darling, I’ll provide for you,” and keeping him comfortable at home.
‘What the hell am I thinking right now.’
She must be too excited after meeting someone who could actually treat her curse. She was having thoughts she normally wouldn’t have.
While Eden was beating herself up over her imagination, Bezel came out of the room, fully dressed.
She chose something that wouldn’t be too taste-specific. She bought a white shirt and black pants, but even the plain outfit that everyone else wore looked like a formal suit on a handsome person.
“You… it suits you. I really do have amazing taste, ahem.”
Eden had nearly blurted out, “You’re so handsome!” but switched it out last second for a safer, “It suits you,” and cleared her throat. Up until today, she never really understood what people meant when they said they were at a loss for words. But now she did. Looking at something so beautiful, it wasn’t just her words that were the problem, but she felt like even her breathing was blocked too.
Without even being asked, Bezel spun around once, showing off the full outfit before hurrying over to sit beside her on the couch. Everything he did still reminded her unmistakably of a puppy.
“If you give me your hand, I’ll start the treatment right away.”
Bezel held out his hands like someone preparing to receive something precious.
“No, you don’t have to….”
Eden felt embarrassed but obediently held out her hand. However, unlike his polite attitude from moments before, as soon as Eden’s hand touched his palm, Bezel laced their fingers together and yanked her sharply toward him.
“Whoa, what!”
Eden’s body lurched forward from the sudden pull. She just barely managed to catch herself with her other hand on the sofa, or she would have lost her balance and fallen right into his arms.
“It was a little far for a kiss.”
Bezel whispered in her ear. His low, hushed voice made goosebumps rise along Eden’s neck.
Now that she thought about it, he needed to kiss her hand for the treatment.
The method of wielding divine power varied from person to person. She’d met high priests who sang, some who prayed, and even one who bounced around shaking some mysterious tree branch, claiming they needed to be possessed first or something.
Compared to that, physical contact was very ordinary. It was also the most common method used by most high priests. This man also seemed to wield divine power in that way…. The question was, he had hands and feet, so why did the contact point have to be the lips?
