Chapter 30
“Ugh, home! Home!”
“Hmm. If you make too much noise on the street, the knights will arrest you.”
“That would actually be great. Tell them to arrest me and lay me down somewhere. Or take me home.”
“I’m already taking you there…”
Bezel looked at Eden throwing a tantrum in the middle of the street with eyes full of disdain.
If this were Hell and that woman were his subordinate, Bezel would have devoured her instantly, telling her not to be so loud. The demon world was that cold and merciless.
But he couldn’t immediately devour good meat that could produce an incomparable flavor if aged properly just because of momentary irritation.
‘Let’s think positively. Since she’s drunk, today will be even better for cooking her up.’
They said the same thing could look different depending on how you thought about it, and that was really true.
So this was the power of mind control. Eden, who had seemed like an annoying drunkard just moments ago, was starting to look like seductive prey with her guard down, perfect for his wicked plans.
Bezel swallowed the saliva that had pooled in his mouth and crouched down in front of her.
“Get on my back.”
“Okay.”
Eden didn’t even pretend to hesitate. She was a woman with unmatched shamelessness, something he’d felt before. Even a demon like Bezel found that aspect truly admirable.
The woman’s body temperature touching his back was warm. Bezel hooked her knees over his arms for support and stood up. Eden quickly wrapped her arms around his neck.
“My stomach feels bad, my head hurts, and my body was already in bad shape. Damn it, my life is such a mess.”
He didn’t know how her complaints about everything hurting had somehow extended to her entire life. Eden had a rich imagination and was good at talking to herself, so listening to her never got boring. Sometimes he wondered why she was like that, but for the most part it was entertaining.
“If it hurts too much, ask for help. Why are you just enduring the pain when I’m here?”
“Can you get rid of hangovers with divine power too?”
It wasn’t divine power, but of course he could devour that too. But there was no reason to sober up prey that had become defenseless from being drunk.
“I meant the curse. As I mentioned before… never mind.”
Bezel trailed off and paused deliberately. His vague, hesitant act frustrated Eden, and she tightened her arms around his neck to urge him on.
“You can’t just stop talking halfway! Why! What is it!”
“Fine, I’ll tell you. A kiss. If it touches the mucous membranes deeper inside, it could temporarily stop all the pain spread throughout your body, not just your hands.”
“Hmm.”
As if giving in, Eden made a strange sound that was neither a hum nor a groan and fell silent. Even drunk, she seemed to have enough sense left to question whether that level of physical contact was appropriate.
Still, the fact that she was considering it was significant progress. Last time, hadn’t she run away in fright as if she’d heard him say he was going to devour her?
At times like this, the right thing to do was wait quietly rather than rush her unnecessarily. Bezel didn’t disturb her deliberation and silently continued walking.
‘To think the day would come when I’d carry someone on my back.’
Carrying Eden on his back was a strange and unfamiliar experience for him.
A high-ranking demon of his level would normally have lower-ranking demons carry them around in carriages. Some ill-tempered demons would even ride on lower-ranking demons’ shoulders just to torment them.
Fortunately, Bezel didn’t have such cruel hobbies. If only because he grew impatient at how slowly they moved, he would create wings from his own shadows and fly around.
What was he even doing, going through all this just to get one piece of quality prey? The effort seemed excessive compared to the results he could obtain.
Still, the reason he endured this troublesome process was because his first trip to the human realm was still interesting so far.
There was the fun of deceiving a woman who knew nothing and thought of him as a kind and innocent victim, and above all, there was the pleasure of gradually advancing his relationship with her. If it were a sports match, it would be like winning one game and moving on to the next.
‘Right. If I think of it as an investment for the future, it’s not something I can’t do.’
Bezel repeated to himself as if rationalizing the unfamiliar behavior, and quietly adjusted Eden on his back.
