Two days ago, he had stopped visiting Eden’s room altogether. Consuming even a little of her life force bit by bit and stopping even that small amount were entirely different things. He felt the craving and restlessness of someone who had quit an addictive substance. In the end, he began using his spare time to devise a more reliable and plentiful way to obtain her life force.

‘I can’t keep stealing her life force like this forever.’

Her saliva and her arousal fluid had indeed been as sweet as her scent. But he wasn’t going to all this trouble with Eden just to suck on a bit of her fluids. No matter how much of her bodily fluids he drank, it couldn’t compare to the actual act. To fully absorb her life force, he needed to have s*x with her.

‘I need some kind of decisive move.’

There was the option of getting her drunk again to make her defenseless once more, but Bezel was done with that.

The first time he had seen her drunk, she had been kissing him and then smacked herself in the head. The next time she drank, she vomited all over him while being touched, thinking it was a dream. He didn’t even want to think about what might happen if he got her drunk one more time.

As he continued to agonize over this, the opportunity to execute that “decisive move” Bezel had been hoping for finally arrived.

“Hey, kid. Go home. I already told you my schedule is fully packed for the next week.”

“No way! Unless you come with me, Miss Hunter, I’m absolutely not going back!”

Eden stared in disbelief at the small boy who barely came up to half her height. She had been leaving the house with Bezel for today’s commission. However, the moment they stepped out of the building, their path was blocked by a boy.

“A demon has appeared in our village!”

The boy, who introduced himself as Julien, clung to Eden’s leg without warning and shouted. Even in this sudden situation, Eden was unfazed.

“So what?”

This was not the first time something like this had happened. Even though there was a separate information broker who handled commissions, clients would insist on seeking Eden out directly. Driven by desperation, they would ignore procedure and show up at her door uninvited.

Naturally, Eden didn’t particularly like those kinds of people. She had a private life, too. If she dealt with each and every person who followed her home like this, her daily life would disappear entirely.

“You can submit a demon extermination commission through the information broker. Want me to give you the address?”

“If you mean Pepe, I already went. She scared me off, Miss Hunter, saying your commissions were already backed up for months and it was impossible!”

“I am pretty popular, you know. Anyway, can you let go while we talk?”

Eden shook the leg the boy was clinging to. With a few light kicks, the small boy was flung onto the dirt ground.

“Oops, I didn’t mean to kick that hard.”

Eden raised one hand as if in apology and walked past him. Bezel was just about to follow her past the boy when,

“My parents…! A demon ate my parents!”

The boy shouted tearfully, his face streaked with dirt.

Parents. At the word she couldn’t bring herself to ignore, Eden’s head turned back. The child was sprawled pitifully on the ground, tears streaming down his face, as if he had never been clinging to her so stubbornly moments ago.

“Ah, damn it. Bringing up parents is cheating.”

Eden furrowed her brow sharply and messed up her hair in irritation. As if sensing from her reaction that this was his chance, the boy burst into even louder wailing.

“Waaaaah! Mom! She even had my little sibling… in her belly, hic!”

“…This is driving me crazy.”

At this point, even Eden could not bring herself to walk past heartlessly. The ones who had been taken by the demon were none other than his parents. It was a story hard to pretend not to hear, if only out of their shared suffering. And on top of that, his mother had been pregnant….

‘At least I was an adult when I lost my parents. This kid is still at an age where he needs his parents’ care.’

Eden stared intently at the thin, frail-looking boy. His body was covered in wounds. She didn’t know for sure, but she suspected they came from fighting back against the demon or from fleeing from the bastard.

This child would have to live on his own from now on. Burning with a desire for revenge against demons, just as Eden had.

‘It’s enough for me to be the only one living like this.’

Maybe it was because she had been stronger than others since birth. Despite being strong herself, she was weak to things that were fragile and small. She would ignore things that were strong and pushy out of sheer spite, but when it was a pitiful opponent like this, she would end up helping, pretending she had no choice.
