Chapter 78
Eden spoke proudly and swung her sword in rapid succession. Sena could not block the attacks like she had before. She somersaulted backward to dodge the blade and quickly put distance between them.
“You sneaky b***h!”
Sena bared her teeth viciously. She had felt an unpleasant aura from the moment those two humans walked in, and it seemed they had brought objects blessed by the god Bara.
It was annoying, but not a real problem. She had anticipated that a Hunter or exorcist priest would come, so she had already braced herself.
She had just been caught off guard because it was her first time ever touching a consecrated weapon.
‘If I’d known consecration worked this well, I would have brought a weapon too. They’ve got a sword and a gun, and I’m empty-handed! This is cheating!’
Sena bit down on her blood-caked lips. She wanted to charge at the woman again, but the man who had come along bothered her. The man, who had crumpled so delicately to the floor when the woman shoved him once, was already back on his feet and had his gun pointed at her.
If it had been an ordinary bullet she would have ignored it, but there were consecrated bullets inside. Without even needing to ask, the aura emanating from it was foul.
‘I need to do something about that gun first.’
As a fox demon whose sharp nails targeted livers, she excelled in close combat.
To get near the woman, she first had to get rid of that gun threatening her from a distance. But her power lay in seducing men, not making objects suddenly disappear.
‘Still, I can get rid of the one holding it.’
Sena licked her lips and stared at the man’s chest.
‘Right. If I take that man down, I won’t even need to fight the woman. That will fill the last liver I need.’
The man had broad shoulders and a thick chest. His sturdy build suggested that even without cutting him open to check, his liver would be fresh and delicious.
‘His face is quite handsome too. Perfect as my final prey.’
After all, food that looks good tastes good too. Sena stared at the man’s brilliant blond hair and the straight bridge of his nose beneath it, marveling to herself again and again. Just then, she met the purple eyes that had been quietly watching her.
‘Wh-what is this?’
In that instant, a chill prickled up the back of her neck. Sena stumbled a step backward.
The man’s appearance was striking, but the aura he exuded was laughably insignificant. Even when he had first entered with the woman, his presence had been so overshadowed by the woman’s powerful aura that she had not even noticed he was there.
But the moment their eyes met, Sena felt an instinctive sense of being overpowered. It was a deep, intense fear whose true nature she could not identify, and made her cower without knowing why.
“What, getting scared?”
Eden watched Sena and the corner of her mouth pulled up in satisfaction. It wasn’t an unfamiliar reaction. The centaur demon she had faced before had reacted exactly the same way.
“Bezel’s divine power really must be something else. Every demon that looks at him can’t seem to keep it together.”
“D-divine power?”
Instead of explaining in detail, Eden lunged at her and swung her sword. Sena flipped through the air to dodge the attack, shaking her head as if to say it made no sense. There was no way. This was not the divine power she so despised. It was something murkier and more sinister than that.
‘This is just like….’
However, her thoughts could not continue. Because she had glanced at the man’s arm by chance, and it was trembling.
Even if it looked small, a gun was made entirely of metal. No matter how well-trained a marksman was, holding a gun with an outstretched arm for an extended time was difficult.
‘Could he be tired?’
Her suspicion of the man vanished into the distance, swept away by the thrill of finally having her chance to attack him. Sena unleashed her power without hesitation.
“Reverie.”
Her curse had a wide range. Anyone within her field of vision became a target of the curse. Bezel was her intended target, but Eden was no exception either.
“Ah….”
The focus quickly drained from Eden’s eyes as she lunged at Sena.
Reverie was a unique spell and curse passed down through the fox clan for generations. Anyone struck by Reverie fell into a state of mind control for a period of time. In their dazed state, they were made to project the feelings they held for the person they loved the most onto the demon.
However, while this curse was remarkably effective on the opposite s*x, it was weak against the same s*x. That was why, even as she seduced every man in the village, she had been unable to control the women.
Since this Hunter was a woman, the effect would last a minute or two at most. And since Eden already harbored ill will toward her, it would likely be even shorter.
But that much time was more than enough to rip out the man’s liver and eat it. Unlike the woman, the man would be completely unable to come to his senses under her curse.
