“I followed your trace. My eyes see things humans cannot,” he said with an amused voice.
As the man removed his hood, brilliant amber eyes, glowing from within, fixed on Edith, who was filled with fear and suspicion.
Meeting his gaze, Edith’s eyes widened in shock.
As his face was revealed, text began to materialize above his head as if a game system window was updating.
[Dragon, Kaidros, Age ???]
His long, flamboyant hair resembled blazing flames. His face bore a proud expression, and his eyes, like set amber, had vertically slit pupils.
This man with such a distinct appearance was the Dragon, one of the three main romance targets. The reason that alley felt familiar wasn’t from Edith’s memory. It was her own memory from playing the game—the location of the heroine’s first meeting event with the Dragon.
‘No wonder the memory felt so vivid!’
Edith tore at her hair, cursing her own memory. If she’d known, she would never have gone. Following that familiar feeling was her own mistake.
‘But in the game, the dragon’s Polymorph form was an adult…’
Now, he looked like a 17-year-old boy, with a youthful voice to match. Perhaps because she had triggered the event, things seemed slightly different from the original. But to avoid stirring up trouble, she decided to feign ignorance of his true identity as a dragon.
“Using magic and having such a unique appearance… I assume you’re not human. Did you really come just to learn my name?”
The dragon gave a languid smile and praised Edith, calling her clever.
“For some reason, I find you interesting… Things have been rather dull lately.”
Hearing the words she least wanted to hear, she felt on the verge of giving up, having drawn the attention of two individuals in one day.
“And if I, the wisest being in this world, bestow wisdom upon you, wouldn’t that be repaying my debt?”
‘Good grief, they say dragons are capricious!’
Edith thought if she kept this dragon around, she might end up kidnapped like the original heroine—or rather, not the heroine, but herself. Taking what he fancied back to his nest, his Dragon’s Lair, was his specialty.
She resolved not to provoke this capricious, wise, and prideful dragon. Instead, she decided she must somehow involve the Saintess to ensure no sparks flew her way.
She was confident that even if he was interested in her now, seeing the Saintess would change his mind.
Because, after all, the Saintess was lovable to anyone who saw her.
“Sigh… Fine. Do as you wish.”
Amused by her seemingly resigned, deep sigh, the dragon laughed heartily.
“Keuk keuk. Perhaps it’s your energy, but I’m not displeased. No, I’d say I’m even more intrigued.”
“I’d prefer you didn’t take an interest…”
“‘You’?”
Somehow, he had heard her muttering and focused on her use of “you” rather than her actual refusal, which was utterly exasperating.
“Yes, since I don’t know your name. My name is Edith Moulton.”
Even though she could clearly see the name written above his head, Edith maintained her nonchalant act and gave her name.
“Edith… Edith, is it… As for what to call me… Hmm… Kai will do.”
The somewhat nickname-like name left her feeling awkward, but she nodded in agreement. She then asked when he would leave, her tone dripping with discomfort.
Amused by the question as well, the dragon laughed heartily in the chair for a moment.
“It’s your wish, so I shall go. Well then, until next time.”
With that, he exited through the window he had entered. And he didn’t forget to dispel the sound-blocking spell on his way out…
* * *
It seemed Edith had misunderstood the meaning of “until next time.”
Just moments ago, after the maid Marie brought a simple breakfast and she was about to eat, the capricious dragon had once again opened the window at will and entered.
“Lord Kai… did ‘until next time’ mean today…?”
Her hand, holding the spoon to sip soup, paused awkwardly as she looked up at him.
“I remembered something I must tell you. Didn’t I say I’d bestow wisdom?”
“And what is that…?”
“Hmm, it would be best if you refrain from leaving the house. And today, your energy is particularly strong, so be cautious.”
‘In this romance fantasy world, is the dragon also a shaman…?’
Kaidros didn’t hide his expression of amusement, flicking Edith’s forehead with a tap and giving a meaningful smile.
“It’s been a while since I’ve visited a human village. I should go broaden my knowledge and information.”
With a short wave, Kaidros exited back through the window. Edith watched the dragon, who had passed by like the wind, then shook her head and resumed her meal.
As full spring seemed to approach, the warm morning breeze felt pleasant. No one came looking for her in this estate, so Edith drowsed lazily by the window, bathed in the warm sunlight.
Leaning against the window, Edith had fallen into a deep sleep when she was jolted awake by noisy sounds from outside. Then, hearing someone rush upstairs, she looked toward the door. The maid Marie, her expression panting and seemingly reverted to her old self, swung the door open.
“Young Lady, come downstairs immediately! The Viscount is asking for you!”
