It seemed the dragon had been involved again. Sinking into self-loathing, Edith retraced the events.

Surprisingly, the intense, traumatic sensations she’d felt in the abyss had already settled into a quiet calm, their existence now merely a small, flickering ember in a corner of her heart. The unexpected tranquility made Edith shake her head a few times, as if to physically dispel it.

The dragon, who had been watching her, interrupted her pensive mood.

“Are you alright now?”

“You startled me! How long have you been there?”

“From the beginning? I’ve been here with you since you collapsed. Do you not remember?”

“No. But I can roughly guess what the situation was…”

Something in Edith’s words seemed to displease Kaidros, and he frowned. Regardless, she now noticed he looked slightly more grown than the form she saw yesterday. Without meaning to, she found herself imagining the body of the Kaidros from last night—a night she couldn’t even remember.

Feeling like a complete degenerate, Edith’s face flushed. Seeing her inner thoughts so plainly seemed to cheer Kaidros up; his frown eased as he asked,

“Who were the ones who put you in that attic? If you wish, I could kill them for you.”

His face was expressionless, but she could almost imagine an invisible dragon’s tail thumping the floor in agitation.

Come to think of it, Edith realized she wasn’t in the attic. Having just witnessed her past memories, she too had to suppress the urge to simply sweep away all the humans who had sent her to that terrible place.

‘But it can’t end that easily.’

Swallowed by a thirst for vengeance, Edith seemed to make up her mind. She looked at Kaidros and made her request.

“Rather than that… I want revenge. I’d prefer to make them suffer the same mental torment I felt… Would you count that as repaying your debt?”

“If it’s a request from my lovely you, I would do it even if it weren’t a debt.”

‘Huh?’

That seemed like a strange adjective to attach. Now that she thought about it, the dragon’s tone had been oddly affectionate for a while.

What on earth happened last night for a romance target to say something like this to me?

Along with the feeling that her plan to involve Serenity was going awry, she found herself deeply disappointing—unable to even execute her plans properly.

She recounted her own story—or more precisely, Edith’s past—and asked the dragon, who prided himself on being wiser than anyone, what she should do.

“Hmm, it did have a significant impact… Anyway, you just need to trust in me.”

The dragon said with a languid smile, making an inscrutable comment. He told her to rely on him alone, easing her worries somewhat.

She found herself hoping the feeling that this sight seemed somehow… dependable… was just her imagination.

“Kyahk! Who are you?!”

About twenty minutes past the usual breakfast time, Marie swung the door open and barged in. She must have gone to the attic and found Edith missing, as she entered with a visibly flustered expression. But upon seeing Kaidros sitting there with utter nonchalance, she screamed.

“Young Lady…! How did you escape—no, how could a noble young lady like yourself bring a strange man into her room?!”

Shouting, Marie seemed thrilled to have something to report to the Viscount, her mouth curling into an involuntary smirk even in her panic.

Kaidros sneered at her and flicked his fingers—a gesture seemingly unique to his magic use. Crimson-hued mana spread through the room like a thick, expanding fog.

The mist then fragmented like shards, flying out the door, through the window, to somewhere else… and one stream flowed directly into Marie, seeping into her mind.

After a brief moment of dazed confusion, Marie suddenly snapped to attention and hastily bowed to Kaidros.

“Oh my! When did you arrive, Prince Kaidros…!”

‘Huh? Prince?’

Utterly bewildered and dumbfounded by this sudden turn of events, Edith stared. Kaidros gave her a slight, knowing smirk before turning his feigned anger on Marie.

“Right after my long-awaited visit to the capital, I came to see my dear cousin… and this is what I find.”

‘Cousin?!’

Listening as Kaidros scolded Marie and inquired about Edith’s presence in the attic, it seemed he had implanted a scenario in their minds: he was the son of a distant, unknown relative from the far west of the Moulton family.

Magic really is something else, Edith marveled, watching Marie’s distressed face as she leisurely spent the morning.

The story went that no one knew this distant relative’s son—a prince—had visited the estate. Flustered by the poor reception, the Viscount was left scrambling. Kaidros informed him he intended to stay for a while, giving Edith the perfect opportunity to carefully carry out her revenge.
