The thought that this foolish human was merely a pastime for a great dragon, and that his fondness stemmed only from his wretched racial trait of taking what he fancied to his lair, made his past self, who had excused it as such, seem laughable.

“Kai…?”

Seeing Edith call his name so casually, still half-asleep, Kaidros let out a low, inward laugh.

“Lord Kai… where have you been?”

Having regained some alertness, she stretched widely and yawned without bothering to cover her mouth. The sight reminded him of a hatchling dragon yawning right after emerging from its egg. In that moment, the uncontrollable, perverse thought—‘Shall I have this little human incubate my eggs…’—made his pupils narrow sharply.

“Now that you’re up, shall we have a meal together?”

This capricious dragon lightly ignored her question, as he always only answered when he felt like it.

Fortunately, the Viscount seemed to be out on business. After sharing a light lunch with Kaidros—their first in a while—the two strolled in the garden.

Walking in the garden after a meal with him had become routine, but she hadn’t strolled since being alone. So, walking here again felt wonderfully familiar, lifting Edith’s spirits.

Unnoticed, the season hinted at summer’s approach, the midday sun growing intensely hot.

“Lord Kai, instead of the garden, shall we walk in the woods today?”

The sole advantage of the estate being in the outskirts was the lush forest right beside it, accessible through a side gate from the garden. Kaidros himself often went into the woods to spend time when he needed natural mana.

For Edith, who had no parasol, the current weather was murderously hot. The shaded forest looked like an oasis, so she asked for his opinion, hoping to pioneer a new walking route.

“That forest has no monsters and is safe, so it’s fine.”

They moved their steps from the sun-drenched garden into the dark, shaded woods. Dense trees couldn’t completely block the sunlight; it forced its way through, scattering a dreamy, golden light through the leaves.

Entering the woods, Edith felt the cool breeze as she walked, sticking close to the estate’s vicinity.

“So, Lord Kai, where did you go? It must have been a very distant place.”

It had been quite a while since the day she received the dinner invitation at the palace. His absence during that time—he who had been protecting her and keeping her company—felt lonely and unsettling.

“I went to meet an old friend. But the situation was hardly suitable for a meeting.”

“Ah… Your friend must have had some circumstances. You traveled so far; it must be disappointing.”

It had been a great distance.

‘Even with my flight, it took roughly a week to reach the edge of the world…’ Kaidros glanced at Edith, who was trying to console him, and thought inwardly.

“Ah! And in the meantime, I had another encounter with the Crown Prince—“

Just as she was about to tattle about the Crown Prince’s atrocity, two snakes, tangled together, suddenly fell from above toward Edith.

“Kyahk!”

It was fortunate Kaidros swatted the snakes away. Two enormous snakes, each as thick as a man’s forearm, were coiled together like springs. If they had hit her head, she would have fainted on the spot.

The snakes, also startled by the fall, hastily untangled their bodies and slithered away into separate bushes.

“Hmm, I recall snakes have their breeding season when the weather warms…”

Kaidros, who had watched the fleeing snakes with interest, said this and then suddenly broke into a suspicious smile.

Unaware of his expression, Edith was calming her startled heart when Kaidros embraced her from behind.

“Eeek, what are you doing?”

‘When startled by a snake, a cute sound comes out, but when I hug her, it’s an ‘eeek’…’ he found it both absurd and endearing. Bending over, he buried his face deeply in the nape of her neck.

Not intentionally, but he faintly sensed the energy of another human male on her. It was definitely familiar.

“By the way, this is troublesome. It seems you’ve been audacious again in my absence.”

“What…!”

Edith felt something hard and substantial pressing against the small of her back through their tightly pressed bodies. This impossibly heavy something seemed to be growing in size, announcing its presence.

The problem was, if what she suspected was correct, she should only be feeling one such thing…

‘Th-This is strange… Why does it feel like two…?’

“I dislike anyone touching what’s mine, but if you were the one who tempted me first…”

The thick sensation pressing against her back and the breath near her neck sent shivers down her spine.

“Ngh…!”

Whether he felt her shivering skin or not, Kaidros slowly licked her neck. A current seemed to shoot from Edith’s toes straight to her chest. The familiar precursor to pleasure began to drain the strength from her legs.

“You deserve punishment.”
