He began interpreting this oracle, which descended suddenly one year before the Saintess’s awakening. There was only one family in the Empire that used the dove as its symbol.
House Langor. In their lineage, there were those born with brilliant platinum hair.
Immediately relaying this oracle to House Langor, the Count and Countess revealed they had no child.
The Temple pressured House Langor, demanding they search for any possible illegitimate child. Racking his memory of over nineteen years ago, the Count barely remembered a night after a banquet when he was heavily drunk and spent one night with a maid whose green eyes were beautiful.
Trying to locate that maid, he found she had quit her job not long after. After inquiries, the Count found the maid on a street not far from the capital.
“She’s my daughter! A child with no connection whatsoever to the Count’s house!”
When he barged into her home, he discovered a girl living with her head tightly wrapped in an old shawl. Removing it, long platinum hair, identical to his own, cascaded down.
The illegitimate child who entered the Count’s house thereafter was already a great fortune to the childless Count and Countess. The fact that she was also the Saintess made her immensely loved.
Shortly before her twentieth birthday, she was summoned by the Temple, informed she was the Saintess, and spent her time there learning teachings and how to wield her power.
“Finally, after a hundred years, a new Saintess has appeared.”
On the day she finished all her teachings, just before she turned twenty, the Temple could finally announce the Saintess’s existence to the Empire, twenty years after the oracle.
On the day signaling the Empire’s golden age, a Saintess beloved by all appeared. But the Black Saintess, unaware of her own existence, simply hid in the mansion on the outskirts, wishing only for death.

“…So, after learning of the Black Saintess’s existence, I became fascinated. Just having her nearby makes those around her unfortunate. What a captivating power, my lady!”
Speaking of the goddess’s truth and beginning to praise the Black Saintess, the Crown Prince approached Edith, who sat frozen, unable to believe the sudden truth. He grabbed her chin, forcing her to meet his eyes, brimming with madness.
“That power, the ability to drag those who obstruct my path into ruin, is far more appealing to me than healing or bestowing blessings.”
Then, laughter seeping from his lips, he slowly brought his mouth close to hers, speaking as if to devour her.
“So I must make you, Lady Moulton, who possesses that power, mine.”
Their lips met, and Edith desperately wanted to deny this insane reality.
Avoiding the maddened eyes of the Crown Prince right before her, she closed her eyelids. She felt a familiar sensation, one she hadn’t felt in a long time, as her consciousness began to drift away.
And in her darkened field of vision, she saw her level surpass 70% for the first time in her life.
[Warning! The Melancholy Level has exceeded 70%! Entering Panic State!]
* * *
I was floating in the abyssal sea of the Panic State I’d experienced once before, doing nothing, thinking nothing.
Even the feeling of being pulled like a magnet, I simply let my body go. The place I was sucked into seemed to be events from after the past of Edith that I had seen that day.
Marie the maid, whom I had no reason to see again, was roughly brushing Edith’s hair, helping her get dressed.
“…So, for once, please! Don’t embarrass yourself and tarnish the viscountcy’s dignity. Just stay hidden in a corner or something!”
Watching Marie say words I’d heard before, only slightly altered, I felt a strange sense of déjà vu.
Dragged to the carriage, the Viscount began speaking to Edith with a dissatisfied expression.
“…At today’s banquet, try to at least smile a little, or drag that tattered dress around, and see if you can entice some of the young masters!”
Hearing similar words again from the past, I vaguely began to understand what this déjà vu was.
Edith, having arrived and alighted, looked up at the opulent golden banquet hall. She went inside, but no one gave her a second glance.
But as if accustomed to it, she stared fixedly at a corner, then quietly went and stood there, motionless.
“For the little sun, His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Ellucian!”
At those words, Edith raised her head. From behind the long bangs covering her face, her eyes shone as she gazed at Serenity standing beside the Crown Prince.
A moment later, coming down the central stairs and surrounded by people’s attention in the middle of the hall, Serenity seemed to feel Edith’s gaze and looked over.
“Oh my, who is that lady over there?”
As Serenity looked at Edith with a curious expression and spoke, the fact that the first person to show interest in her was the Saintess made Edith’s face flush with embarrassment. Her eyes shone even brighter as she looked at the Saintess with an overwhelmed expression.
