The one who surprised her was the Saintess, whom she thought had gone to see the other young ladies off.
“Saintess… I mean, Miss Langor? Is something the matter?”
“Young Lady…”
Serenity, the lovely game heroine, looked at Edith with a worried expression, her large eyes welling up. After a long pause, she suddenly grabbed Edith’s hand and exclaimed,
“Miss Moulton, are you… are you being bullied?!”
“Pardon?”
The sudden accusation left Edith flustered, her expression twisting before she could even grasp the intent. But seeing her face, Serenity gripped her hand even tighter and continued rapidly.
“During the party earlier, you didn’t say a word, and your expression darkened whenever the others spoke.”
“What are you talking about all of a sudden…?”
“Besides, everyone was openly treating you as if you weren’t even there!”
Serenity’s face grew increasingly distressed, as if she might burst into tears at any moment.
“So that’s why… you ran off without a word when you fell at the banquet…?”
Edith was utterly baffled as to why the Saintess was saying this to her.
‘Well, I am being treated like a gloomy outcast…’
But she liked staying in the corner, and at the banquet, she had been in a panic state, not acting of her own will. Above all, Serenity had been watching her? Out of everyone, why the Saintess, when no one else had paid her any attention?
Edith felt something was off and tried to ponder that question, but under Serenity’s intense gaze, her thoughts veered elsewhere.
‘Right, the Saintess is famously nosy. This is going to be tiresome…’
The original heroine’s personality was kind to the weak and fiercely just, to the point of not tolerating injustice. But she also had the major flaw of being oblivious and incredibly meddlesome. She truly fit the role of a saintess.
In a way, it was no wonder the male leads found her unique and were drawn to her.
‘Since that personality applies to everyone, she ends up provoking jealousy from the male leads, leading to kidnappings and confinement, didn’t she…?’
Edith sighed, gently pulling her hand free.
“I prefer it that way.”
“That can’t be true! When you fell at the banquet and no one offered a hand… that’s a sad thing…”
Edith was taken aback by the pitying tone.
“In that case… I’ll be the friend who offers you a hand!”
This misguided kindness felt incredibly uncomfortable. Serenity seemed to have made up her mind on her own, Edith’s words not reaching her at all.
‘First the Viscount, now the Saintess… Why is everyone ruining my plans?’
Most of all, Edith thought her plan to avoid the heroine had succeeded, only to see it crumble to nothing. No matter how much she said “no” or “I’m fine,” Serenity clung to her side until seeing her off, insisting she’d be her friend and asking if she could write letters.
Edith couldn’t even remember how she got home. Staring into space, she muttered,
“Haha… I’m doomed.”
True to her word, letters from Serenity arrived. Edith, not wanting to engage, ignored them without reply. But after days of accumulating letters and the growing stares from the household, she eventually wrote back out of courtesy. This led to a repeated exchange of several letters.
The letters mainly contained trivial, cute things: small animals, prayers at the temple for the sick, quiet days spent at home, and so on.
While the correspondence was a nuisance, it had one unintended benefit: the Viscount, believing Edith was obeying his order to befriend the Saintess, began showing her slightly less contempt than before.
His changed attitude affected the entire household. The maids, including the once-sneering Marie, started watching their behavior around her.
‘Well, this is a bit nice.’
Thanks to this, her Melancholy Level didn’t spike significantly, and she could live a more peaceful life than before.
Just as she was gradually adapting to her transmigrated life, a letter arrived from Serenity. She wrote of a place she wanted to visit and wished for Edith to join her.

“Miss Moulton!”
At the sound of a familiar, gentle voice calling her, Edith turned her head. By the plaza fountain stood a woman in a white robe that covered half her face and a man in light travel clothes with a sword at his hip who looked like a guard.
The woman hurried over, lifted her hood slightly to reveal a bright smile, and greeted her warmly.
“Thank you so much for meeting me! There were some places I really wanted to visit with you today.”
The shyly smiling Serenity truly looked lovely, even to Edith’s eyes.
“Not at all,” Edith replied flatly. But to Edith, she was one of the people she wanted to avoid. The only reason she’d agreed to meet was to escape the estate.
“Let’s go~!”
Serenity’s eyes sparkled like an excited child’s as she grabbed Edith’s hand, urging her to hurry.
“Huh? Wait a moment, where exactly are we going… And who is this?”
The man following behind, whom she’d assumed was a guard, was none other than Knight Commander Carlton.
