“Why are you inflicting such severe pain on my poor, dear son?”
Her tone was gentle, but the witch was no trivial opponent.
She was the Demon King’s right-hand, a close confidant and witch.
The Witch Odr, too, had met her end with the death of Demon King Audixus, but until her last moment, she had slaughtered countless humans. She was not someone to be carelessly dealt with.
Rufus bowed respectfully to the Witch Odr.
“Witch Odr, I wish to make a deal with you.”
“If you want to trade, do it fairly. Playing with life like this is quite rude.”
The Witch Odr looked down at her son Iruel, who was sweating in agony.
“Does it hurt very much, my son?”
“I feel like I’m dying…”
“That’s why I told you not to eat food given by strangers.”
While saying this, the Witch Odr shot Rufus a resentful glare.
“I apologize for using poison on your son. It was the only way I could think of to speak with you.”
“Fine. You mentioned a trade? Let’s hear it.”
The Witch Odr raised Iruel with her magic.
“Mother, don’t listen to this prick…”
Hovering in the air, Iruel groaned and looked at his mother.
“Iruel, just stay quiet. Let me hear what this man has to say, and I will decide.”
The Witch Odr wiped Iruel’s sweat and soothed him.
“If he makes an unreasonable demand, I’ll just kill him and take the antidote, right?”
After adding that, the Witch Odr smiled slyly.
“It’s not an arbitrary deal. I have a very reasonable request.”
“Really? And what is it that you want?”
The Witch Odr, with her hands clasped behind her back, secretly started drawing a magic circle for a curse. Red magic began to bloom silently. If he dared ask for the Demon King’s life, she planned to instantly turn him into a toad.
But the man’s request was extraordinary and surprisingly bold.
“I wish to face Demon King Audixus. Please take me to the Demon King’s castle.”
To the Demon King’s castle?
Hearing Rufus’s request, the Witch Odr froze for a moment, then burst into loud laughter.
“I don’t know what you’re scheming, but that’s impossible. If I bring someone as insignificant as you to Demon King Audixus, I’ll be severely reprimanded.”
“Demon King Audixus already knows of me.”
The sinister laughter of the Witch Odr in the tent abruptly ceased.
“The Demon King knows you? What are you talking about?”
The Witch Odr’s eyes narrowed into crescents.
“It’s exactly as I say.”
“Don’t lie. The Demon King I serve doesn’t fraternize with humans.”
“I never said we were friends. But I have indeed met Demon King Audixus. He will know me.”
He had to.
The specter of the Demon King crossed the magic circle with Rufus.
During his stay at the Inferna Barony, Rufus scoured every magical tome. He found a magic circle that matched the one drawn by the specter of Demon King Audixus in front of Sarubia’s tomb.
A cursed magic circle created by demonic energy, capable of reversing time. Those who crossed it retained all memories and returned intact to the past.
Even as a specter, Demon King Audixus had crossed the circle. Thus, he would surely remember Rufus.
“Can’t believe me? Then go and ask Demon King Audixus yourself.”
The Witch Odr’s eyes narrowed further at Rufus’s assertive attitude.
Rufus knew that the Witch Odr was Iruel’s mother. Among humans, only Iruel’s biological father, Viscount Eustice, knew the story of Iruel’s birth.
Yet, this man named Rufus, who had no acquaintance with Viscount Eustice, knew this and had come fully prepared to use Iruel as a hostage. Given all this, Rufus was no ordinary person.
Moreover, looking into his resolute eyes, it seemed his claim of meeting Demon King Audixus wasn’t entirely false.
What could be the identity of this man?
“What do you plan to do after meeting the Demon King?”
“You’ll see. It will benefit the demons, especially your son.”
