Chapter 99
Though she felt bewilderment, she didn’t show it and only smiled leisurely. She didn’t know why he was asking such an extremely private matter, but she didn’t want to show any gaps. Soon she nodded and answered while picking up and eating another yakgwa.
“That’s right, Your Majesty.”
Whether Kim Seon was determined to see her wavering appearance, he stimulated her with a gentle voice.
“The more I think about it, the more curious I become about the Hongui tribe. I’ll arrange a place to enjoy lunch soon, so please tell me about it in detail.”
The atmosphere was as if he was inviting her to his bedchamber rather than lunch. She could feel the heart of a man who wanted to remove the cloth covering her eyes by any means necessary.
Yuseol’s clasped hands were on the verge of being crushed from impatience, but she didn’t waver. She showed a noble appearance befitting the reputation of being that outstanding Mu-yeong’s lover.
“I am deeply grateful. Then I will attend together with my fiancé.”
He, who had hesitated for a moment, leisurely nodded.
“Do as you’re comfortable.”
Though he didn’t show a welcoming attitude, he didn’t refuse either. It was the leisure that could be exuded from being in a position superior to anyone. He was currently focused on Yuseol’s appearance rather than lunch. It was the moment when Yuseol swallowed her tension at the sharp gaze that scrutinized her features thoroughly.
Kim Seon said quite satisfiedly.
“But you seem to have become more beautiful in just a few days.”
Yuseol’s mind went blank like a white sheet of paper. She was only listening to the sound of insects seeping into her distant ears.
Kim Seon wasn’t the type to easily praise other people’s appearances but rather to find disappointing points, so he was someone who could never be satisfied. Her head, which had been throbbing since morning, finally went completely black and no thoughts came.
Then a long shadow appeared on the wooden floor of the pavilion. Mu-yeong was cast in Yuseol’s pupils as they slowly followed the shadow.
He entered the pavilion and spoke coolly. His horizontally long eyes held an utterly cold light.
“I greet Your Majesty. Sahwa didn’t return, so I was looking for her.”
Even at a glance, his mood wasn’t good. Yuseol, who hadn’t returned to her quarters until sunset, bowed her head and bit her lips.
Kim Seon glanced at Mu-yeong and continued the conversation as if being chased by something.
“I like beautiful things.”
He looked into Yuseol’s eyes and smiled as if sincere. Various emotions were reflected in his gently curved eyes.
Flustered, Yuseol bowed her head, and Mu-yeong quietly stared at Kim Seon. There was no loyalty to the king in his calm attitude.
“Doesn’t everyone like beautiful things, Your Majesty?”
Yuseol, who didn’t know what to do, watched Kim Seon’s expression. Soon Kim Seon filled her clear pupils completely.
Mu-yeong, who had been utterly indifferent at Museolwon, was noticeably on edge. It was because of a temperature that even he didn’t know had risen as time passed. A cool flame was about to bloom in his mysteriously colored pupils.
In that state, he observed Yuseol. If the man who had abandoned her so shamelessly and mercilessly approached again, he was curious how she would react. If that had been her first love that couldn’t be fulfilled.
Though he made a face as if he didn’t particularly want to imagine it, he couldn’t take his gaze off Yuseol. Her beautifully decorated face was colored with confusion. She seemed troubled in a situation where she could neither return to her quarters nor stay.
Mu-yeong had anticipated such a situation. The solution for when she fell into danger by being swayed by Kim Seon was also in his plan. Though even he didn’t know why he had made such a plan, there would be no problem.
Mu-yeong looked at Yuseol.
“It’s late, so let’s go back now.”
Of course, he had no expectation that she would turn around resolutely. Everything he had observed until now made him feel that way.
Then she turned her body to be close to Mu-yeong and lightly gripped his sleeve. Then she looked up at Mu-yeong. Her tender voice clearly filled the pavilion.
“I think I’ve become beautiful probably thanks to being loved so much by this person in the meantime, Your Majesty. Then since Your Majesty must also be tired at this hour, this humble person will withdraw.”
Mu-yeong, who had been about to bow to Kim Seon in her place, stopped completely. He looked at Yuseol as if confirming what he had just heard.
She was smiling like a woman truly immersed in love.
An unknown roar rang in Mu-yeong’s ears. It felt like being mercilessly struck by something. By something tender and mournful and clumsy but beautiful. It was a completely unexpected collision.
The objects in his field of vision began to burn up. Everything showed signs of being dyed pitch black. But in the world that had become dizzy in an instant, she alone existed brilliantly. Because he didn’t want it, he closed his eyes.
And he slowly opened his eyes again. She was still sparkling.
There was absolutely no way to erase her.
