At Count Morado’s words of thanks, Ruby turned her gaze and asked Alex, who stood beside him.
“How are you feeling, young master?”
“…I’m all right, Lady.”
“You don’t suddenly feel a chill, or find your breathing growing short, are you?”
“I did right after I woke up, but now I feel nothing at all.”
“It seems it was resolved well, then. Still, for a while you should eat plenty and exercise properly. Understand?”
“Yes, I’ll be sure to.”
Alex, nodding vigorously as he answered, quickly added a few words at his father’s glance.
“I heard I would have been in great danger if it weren’t for you, Lady. I thank you sincerely. I’ll be sure to repay this debt.”
The Count watched Alex finish speaking so stoutly with a moved look, nodding along.
Then the Count gave a wordless glance to Isabelle, who stood on his other side.
Isabelle, her face pale to a pitiable degree, conveyed her thanks to Ruby.
“…Thank you for saving my brother, Lady.”
The trembling voice sounded as if she were forcing it out with a blade held to her throat. So it didn’t sit well with Ruby either. She had no wish to receive forced thanks.
“Count, if your formalities are finished, you should take your leave now. Ruby hasn’t fully recovered and needs to rest.”
The instant the formalities ended, Ivan ordered Count of Morado’s family out. In truth, his nerves had been on edge for a while, and he couldn’t stand it.
It was a pheromone scent far fainter than during her heat, yet even so, the thought of another male catching it made him feel he might lose his mind.
If he’d had his way, he wouldn’t have wanted to call the physician either, but he couldn’t go that far. Above all, what mattered most was Ruby’s recovery.
“Thank you for your time, Alpha, and young lady.”
The Count bowed politely to Ivan and Ruby, then raised his head and added:
“I hope you recover swiftly.”
“Yes, thank you.”
“Me too!”
Adding a bright word to his father’s, Alex hurried after the Count, who was leaving the room first. Isabelle, who had still stood motionless, spoke to Ivan in a plaintive voice.
“Um, Your Grace…”
“What is it?”
The Count and Alex, who’d been on his nerves the whole time, having left, Ivan felt much better as he looked at Isabelle. She and Ruby were the same s*x, so he felt less displeasure.
Having already noticed Ruby’s pheromones, Isabelle worked up her courage and said:
“Lady Rosa may be uncomfortable, so why not move her to my room? It would surely be better for her to be in another woman’s room.”
At her words, the physician and Liam, who’d been about to leave, looked over with stunned faces. Ivan was no different from them, except that his reaction leaned more toward disbelief.
Not only the three in the room, but the Count and Alex, who had already stepped outside, turned around and stared at Isabelle with shocked eyes.
But Isabelle, unconcerned, kept her neck stiff and looked at Ruby. A hard jealousy surged up in her over that rabbit beastfolk, who dared to lie so boldly in Ivan’s bedroom, and on his bed at that.
That’s my place. It isn’t somewhere the likes of you may lie like that.
She couldn’t stop her face from growing hot, but she pressed down and hid the jealousy lurking inside her.
“Hah.”
Ivan let out a scornful laugh. For the first time, Isabelle, whom he’d known since childhood, looked different to him. The persistent gaze she fixed on him, no different from the countless looks he’d felt from females, was distasteful.
It seemed that humoring her habits, thinking of her as a younger cousin, had let her misunderstand. He muttered in a cold voice:
“You overstep, Lady Morado.”
“…What?”
