“Damn it, can’t we just kill them?!”
A subordinate who managed the mountain lodge where the Pink Rabbit tribe was held captive came in suddenly and shouted.
“Milo. I believe I told you not to run your mouth so carelessly in front of the Chief.”
Kailos, the attendant secretary working alongside them, looked at his younger brother with disdain and snapped.
“Waaah, Chief! Their Chief is so stubborn she won’t tell me a single thing! Please, just let me kill one of them! That’s the only way the threats will land, isn’t it?!”
Milo’s argument had its own merit. Leonel was not one to miss that. Leonel, Chief of the Lion tribe, threw the documents he’d been reading onto the desk, rose from his seat, and walked toward the window.
Throwing it wide open, he picked up the cigar resting on the sill and lit it. Blowing a long stream of smoke out, he asked something else instead of pointing out Milo’s insolence.
“What word has come from the Serpent Tribe?”
“They said these ones are to be used as sacrifices, so keep them well preserved.”
Kailos, answering in Milo’s place, continued without hiding his displeasure.
“That Alfonso is a sly one, my lord. If we take his word at face value, it could put us at a disadvantage.”
“Hm.”
“They haven’t revealed exactly what the Pink Rabbit tribe is to be sacrificed for.”
Milo, who had been quietly listening, spoke up, worked up.
“Come on, they say the Pink Rabbit tribe uses spirit power too. Do we really have to listen only to the lowly Serpent Tribe?”
Leonel, who had been listening quietly, turned his head at Milo’s words. Hazy smoke streamed out from between his lips. At the sight, Milo flinched back and straightened his posture.
It was because he was overwhelmed by the aura Leonel radiated. But unlike that fierce force, a favorable response came from Leonel’s mouth.
“Now that you mention it, that sounds plausible.”
“I’ve heard the Pink Rabbit tribe’s power includes prophetic dreams, along with soothing souls and sending them to a better place. But even this is information passed on through the Serpent Tribe, so it isn’t certain, Chief.”
Kailos, adding the apt remark, opened a drawer to find the letter received from the Serpent Tribe in order to report more precisely.
Emboldened by his words, Milo relaxed his stiff expression and spoke cheerfully.
“Then why not win them over instead? And if they end up no longer needed, there’s no harm in using them as sacrifices then, right?”
“Hm. Not a bad method.”
“Right? Then I should press them to dream a prophetic dream. Ah, now that I think of it, some of the children were sick. I’ll bring some medicine and try to win them over.”
Milo was delighted, thinking he might finally get the rabbit Chief to talk. Leonel quietly puffed smoke and sank into thought.
Would the prophetic dreams the Pink Rabbit tribe had really contain what he wanted?

While Ivan went down to his office to attend to work, Ruby went out to the back garden. The weather had grown fairly cold by now, so an outer layer was a must. Bundled snugly in a robe, she ran to a corner of the garden.
“Lord Louis!”
As she looked here and there, calling loudly for Louis, before long he appeared.
‘Ruby, are you all right?’
Louis had witnessed everything from days before, so he knew she had collapsed.
“Of course. I’ve already rested for several days.”
‘That’s a relief…’
Ruby was briefly startled by the genuinely relieved voice, but soon nodded, accepting that it made sense.
After all, she’d been through this and that with Louis in a short time, so it was natural for some attachment to form. Of course, growing attached to a spirit did no good, so she quickly pushed the thought away.
“I came looking because I have something to ask. Do you… happen to know a woman named Agatha?”
