Having drunk the tea and gone back to his work, Ivan, at a sudden heat and stuffiness he felt, tugged his cravat down a little.
“Phew… Did someone put too much firewood in the stove?”
“Are you feeling hot?”
“The temperature seems higher than usual.”
“That’s strange… It’s only a touch more than yesterday, though.”
Mael checked the fireplace, tilting his head. Ivan, too, looked at the size of the fire burning within and was puzzled.
At the sight of the Duke with his flushed face, Mael rose from his seat and said:
“I’ll open a window, Your Grace.”
“Yes, let’s air it out for a moment…”
Ivan couldn’t finish his words. Suddenly his heart gave a heavy thud, and all the blood in his body seemed to surge up at once.
“Hgk!”
“Your Grace!”
Ivan’s pheromones erupted explosively. At the same time, the wolf ears and tail he’d been keeping under control sprang out.
The aides in the same office shot to their feet at once and backed away, covering their noses and mouths.
“I’ll fetch the head butler!”
Wrapped in a sensation of floating, Ivan stared blankly as Mael bolted outside. His head felt as if it were melting away into mush.
Unlike his usual heat, the speed at which he was heating up was so fast it made his head spin. The sensation of his thoughts and body growing sluggish was something he’d been through many times, but every time it felt foul.
With every breath he exhaled, a heat as hot as a lump of burning charcoal spread out.
The expression slowly drained from Ivan’s face. Soon, wearing a blank face, he ignored the aides’ calls and strode out.
With each step he took, it was as hard as walking a mountain path where the snow had melted to slush. Even so, he didn’t stop walking.
Because he had to find her, the one he most wanted to see in this very moment.
The moment he came down the stairs, screams rose from all around. Ignoring those caught in his blurred vision, he focused only on his sense of smell.
His body, now close to pure instinct, keenly detected Ruby’s pheromones.
“Ha, this disobedient rabbit.”
He’d told her to stay in the room, but it seemed she’d gone out again in no time. He followed the scent drifting from the back garden. The chill of spirits clung to him right away, but because his fever was searing, that unpleasant chill instead felt welcome.
Neither the snowfall lashing his whole body nor the snow piled deep enough to swallow his feet could stop him. His body, ruled by the heat, told him to push through everything cold and go to Ruby.
The closer he drew to Ruby, the thicker her pheromones felt. That alone was enough to make him grow painfully hard, making walking even more difficult, but he couldn’t stop until he found her.
It seemed he’d only feel at ease once he held Ruby in his arms. He needed a female by his side who could relieve his heat whenever he wished.
“…Yes, Ruby is my female.”
Murmuring in a bleak voice, he lunged toward Ruby the instant she came into view. Moving so fast and fiercely he was barely visible, he snatched up Ruby, who’d been standing beneath the apple tree, in a single motion.
“Kyaa!”
Ruby, who had been pressing Louis with all sorts of questions, cried out at being seized without warning, but soon relaxed at the familiar scent drifting over her. That lasted only a moment, as she was startled by the intense pheromones enveloping her whole body, she trembled.
“Ahh…”
Holding the Ruby who had finally come into his arms, Ivan let his eyes glint darkly. His silver eyes, burning with desire, stared down at her.
“Y-Your Grace?”
Even at the voice soaked in bewilderment, Ivan only smiled without a sound.
“Wh-what on earth is…”
An immense yang energy seemed to bear down on her body. The instant she realized his heat had arrived, Ruby’s body went limp and felt as if it were melting like melting sugar. It felt as if all the strength were draining from her body.
