I’m a Wren, but I’m Going to Charm a Human!

I swung my arms wildly before thrusting them dramatically into the air. Then I planted one hand on my hip and snapped my pelvis from side to side.

Once, twice, three times.

After that, I gave my entire body a seductive little shimmy.

I had completely lost myself in the performance. Closing my eyes, I surrendered to the moment and became intoxicated by my own dancing.

It was about time to move toward the climax.

Just as Sir Vector of the Royal Knights had approached Frizel’s personal maid, I began striding forward provocatively.

Except Human Servant No. 1, who should have been standing directly in front of me, was nowhere to be seen.

Surely not… He left me?

He had actually walked away while I was performing such a passionate courtship dance for him?

The reality was so unbelievable that I was rendered speechless.

This had to be a dream. There was simply no other explanation.

Yet no matter how vigorously I shook my head, reality stubbornly refused to change.

Another bitterly cold night passed.

I was still hungry, and after sleeping outdoors night after night, my body was rapidly growing weaker.

Yet even that wasn’t what troubled me most.

What truly tormented me was Human Servant No. 1’s shocking reaction.

‘How could he just leave me there?’

I spent the entire night agonizing over it, but I still couldn’t figure out what had gone wrong. If there had been another beastfolk nearby, I could at least have asked them and gotten a proper answer.

At this point, there was only one thing left to do.

I would try every courtship method I knew.

Fortunately, Human Servant No. 1 climbed the mountain where I was staying every single day. Whenever I spotted him from afar, he would immediately flee like a deer that had encountered a predator.

But I was just as quick to chase after him.

“Stop right there!”

“No, seriously, why—why are you doing this to me?!”

And so began our daily game of pursuit.

Whenever I finally caught up to him, I would unleash every courtship technique in my arsenal.

I invented new dances. I performed spectacular backflips. I even sang for him.

To be perfectly honest, I hadn’t wanted to go this far, but eventually I resorted to the exceedingly old-fashioned method of preparing a nest for him.

Yet no matter what I tried, his reactions were never encouraging.

“Please… I’m begging you. Stop doing this.”

Honestly. Anyone who saw his pitiful expression would think I was tormenting him.

“What? What have I even done?”

“If there’s something you need, I’ll give you anything you want, so please…”

“I don’t need any of that. I prepared something new today, so pay attention and watch properly. Understand?”

But no matter how earnestly I performed, the moment I turned around, he would already be gone.

At this rate, I was no different from some trained animal performing tricks for a rock.

‘What in the world am I supposed to do?’

As my plans failed one after another, the amount of time I spent living outdoors only grew longer.

My once-glossy hair had become dry and brittle, and hunger and cold gradually left my body thinner and weaker.

My conscience allowed me to take only a tiny handful of berries from the vine cherished by the squirrel family, but naturally, that was nowhere near enough to satisfy my hunger.

I wandered around in search of something else until I noticed an object lying on the ground near a path frequented by humans.

When I approached, I realized it was a piece of half-eaten bread someone had discarded. There was a little dirt and dust clinging to it, but it would at least quiet my starving stomach.

Gulp.

‘Should I eat it?’

The temptation sent my thoughts spinning.

But who was I?

I was Princess Meishutanacompattineoraro, the thirty-second princess of the Wren Kingdom!

I might currently be sleeping outdoors, but how could someone as noble as myself even consider picking up bread from the ground simply because she was hungry?

And yet…

Opportunities like this didn’t come along every day. Worse still, I couldn’t even remember the last time I had eaten bread.

The mere thought of its warm, savory aroma made my mouth water.

I couldn’t endure it any longer.

Dropping to my knees, I reverently lifted the beautiful piece of bread from the ground with both hands.

“Ahh… What a magnificent sight.”

I was just about to put it into my mouth when I suddenly felt someone staring at me. I turned my head.

Human Servant No. 1 was standing there, staring at me with an expression of utter disbelief.

‘Huh…?’

N-No! He couldn’t see me behaving so disgracefully!

Unfortunately, my thoughts and my body were no longer working together.

I was so desperately hungry that instinct had completely overpowered reason. By the time my senses finally returned, the bread was already inside my mouth.
