Chapter 73
I couldn’t breathe properly. Tears welled up at the corners of my eyes. When I frowned, they streamed down my cheeks. At that moment, Michael grabbed the corners of my mouth and forcibly pulled them upward.
“Ha. I’m so happy you knew me. You’re happy too, right? Try smiling.”
What a lunatic.
I clamped my lips shut with all my strength and bit his hand. But perhaps because the glove was thick, it didn’t affect Michael at all.
“Smile. I think you’ll look much prettier that way.”
As I shook my head from side to side in refusal, Michael let out a delighted laugh.
If this continued, it felt like I wouldn’t be able to breathe properly and would die. With a bright, cheerful face, Michael rummaged around inside my mouth a few more times before letting go.
Then, as if I couldn’t move, he grabbed my hair and began to touch the back of my neck.
“Nita, will you call me? My name.”
“I don’t know who you are.”
“That can’t be.”
“I don’t! I said I don’t! How many times do I have to say it!?”
“Fine. You can pretend not to know. Go on, call me Michael Raymond.”
Crazy bastard.
Swallowing those words, I glared at him fiercely.
“I will never call you. Let go of me!”
It felt completely different from Chase’s touch. It was utterly horrifying.
Gritting my teeth as I tried to overcome the surging fear and chills, I shouted. But Michael seemed to be in an even better mood, his breathing growing heavier. His face, pale to the point of being bloodless, even seemed to flush.
You’re just too lovable.
He brought his face close. It felt like he would press his lips against mine at any moment, and instinctively, I quickly turned my head to the side.
At that moment, Michael’s lips touched my cheek. The cool sensation of his lips sent chills down my spine, and cold sweat ran down.
He’s insane! It wasn’t a misunderstanding. He was definitely trying to kiss me!
My body stiffened. My heart pounded so fast I could hear it in my ears.
As if displeased with my reaction, Michael tightened his grip on my hair.
“Ugh!”
My head was forced back, and his hand touched my waist. Then his parted lips touched my face again. After lightly biting my earlobe and letting go, he stuck out his long tongue and dragged it from the tip of my chin up to beneath my eye.
After licking my face several times like that, his lips moved to the back of my neck. Naturally, the hand that had been gripping my hair let go and pulled down the shoulder of my dress. At the same time, his chilling lips moved toward my chest.
I pushed against his shoulders with both hands, but it was useless. It wasn’t something I could escape from just by hitting his chest a few times with my fists.
I clenched my fists tightly, trying to calm myself, but my breathing grew ragged. My dress was beginning to slip down, exposing the upper part of my chest. At that moment, I withdrew the arm that had been pushing Michael away and hurriedly grabbed my clothes. No matter what, I wanted to avoid this situation continuing.
Forcing myself to stay calm so my voice wouldn’t tremble, I asked,
“H-how did you get in here?”
I was worried he might ignore me and act as he pleased, but fortunately, Michael responded. As if he intended to talk, he let go of me, straightened his body, and glanced around lightly.
“Ah, this castle. I tried to get in several times, but teleportation magic didn’t work at all. On the days you came outside the castle, that annoying guy kept sticking close to you. Even on the days he wasn’t in the castle, you didn’t move from inside at all. There were too many guards too, so I had a bit of trouble.”
Michael grabbed my head again and turned it to face his eyes. His eyes, which had been cold and rigid, curved into a smile.
“Th-the fire… was that you?”
Because Michael’s chilling gaze was still fixed on my chest and lips, I tried to look away as much as possible.
“Yeah. I needed a pretext to leave you alone. And look. That’s how we ended up meeting like this.”
He’s insane.
That was the only thought that came to mind.
How could he look so normal and still think of setting fire to the Forest of Prosperity?
That place is a land overflowing with mana.
The reason Heinrich made a contract with the wolf was not only to protect the wolf that guarded the Forest of Prosperity, but also to protect the people.
No matter how much he said that the mana covering the withered World Tree is dangerous, they wouldn’t listen. Those consumed by greed who entered the Forest of Prosperity became monsters, and Heinrich was the one who dealt with the aftermath.
Since the World Tree dried up, it’s the place where the most mana had gathered. Even the Mage Tower clicked their tongues at it, and even the Emperor couldn’t handle it and abandoned the land.
And he set fire to a place like that? No one knows what would happen if a place that had been quiet for so long gets disturbed.
Did he really do something like that just to get what he wanted right in front of him?
