“Sillian.”

When she called his name, he turned his head and gave a light smile.
Receiving his practiced escort, they began walking toward the garden.
While she was wondering how to bring up the topic of the book, he spoke first.

“I heard Eshar came by.”

“News really travels fast in the Imperial Castle.”

“I pay attention to stories concerning you.”

She hesitated, unsure of what to say.
Should she thank him, or tell him such concern was a little too much?
Lynette slightly turned her head away to avoid his eyes.

“Why did that woman come to see you?”

“It’s not strange for Miss Eshar to visit the Detached Palace.”

“She didn’t come to see you?”

“How did you know?”

“If she brought a pile of gifts, it couldn’t have been to meet the Imperial Prince.”

“She only came to visit while I was unwell.”

There was no need to tell this man everything.
If she said someone else might be targeting him, it would only stir up trouble.

Sillian’s expression turned doubtful, but he didn’t pry further.
Afraid the subject of that visit might come up again, Lynette quickly changed the topic.

“Sillian, I found a book about Etel in the Imperial Library.”

“I see.”

He answered calmly, as if he wasn’t surprised.

“I can roughly guess its contents. There aren’t many records left about Etel.”

“It mentioned ‘the hero’.”

The man shrugged with a smile.

“Isn’t it funny? Even though such records remain, the Empire keeps spreading the legends it created.”

“Do you believe dragons really existed long ago?”

At her words Sillian paused in thought.
He’d seemed so serious when talking about the legend of the hero that she had thought he truly believed it, but apparently not.
It was a little unexpected.

Wasn’t he someone born and raised where that legend came from? And hadn’t the royal family gone to great lengths to preserve the hero’s bloodline, to the point of showing real effects? Yet he hesitated to answer.

“Well. There’s no proof dragons actually existed, is there?”

Sillian gave a faint smile.

“There are many legends about dragons in the Calles Kingdom, but… just because there are a lot of stories doesn’t make it easy to believe they truly existed.”

“Then what about the story of the hero?”

“It was probably something people described in comparison to a dragon.”

The man continued calmly.

“For example, some kind of forbidden magic. Wouldn’t that be possible?”

“…”

“If magic that can create a fake Guide exists, then perhaps there was also magic that could ‘make one surpass human limits’.”

Hearing that, it actually sounded more convincing than the absurd claim that dragons had existed.

Just as Sillian said, there was no evidence dragons had truly existed.
One could hear stories anywhere, but not a single bone from that enormous body, not one scale, had remained.

‘Forbidden magic…’

Lynette furrowed her brows slightly. Had the ‘hero’ been the only one to survive among countless test subjects? Thinking so made her feel a sense of kinship.

“But why are you asking about that?”

He looked back at her.

“The book said, ‘The hero returned the power in the end.’”

At that, Sillian frowned.

“What does it mean, ‘returned the power’?”

Lynette tried to recall the sentence she had read.

“It said, ‘What was received from the dragon should rightfully be returned.’”

“That’s what it said?”

“Yes. Doesn’t that mean he gave his power back?”

“I’ve never seen such a passage. And if he had returned his power, wouldn’t his descendants have had none?”

“I’m not sure about that…”

It had only been a single line, so Lynette couldn’t explain clearly either.
Why the descendants still possessed power, what happened afterward, if she knew everything, she wouldn’t even have to agonize like this now.

“In any case, the book said that the power was returned to the dragon.”

“I doubt power can be given and taken so easily.”

“It may not be easy, but isn’t it possible?”

At her words Sillian came to an abrupt stop.

His red eyes darkened.

Only now did he seem to realize why Lynette was bringing up such a topic.

“You’re thinking of a way to erase power altogether.”

Instead of answering, Lynette lowered her head.

“Was it that man who told you this?”

“This has nothing to do with His Highness the Imperial Prince. It’s just something I looked up on my own.”

“You’re always shielding the Prince.”

“It’s just a legend, isn’t it?”

“Do you really intend to leave?”

His voice held a trace of anger.

“You say you’ll leave, but are you actually hoping to stay somehow?”

Lynette bit down hard on her lip.

Yes, in truth she didn’t want to leave. That’s why she was desperately searching for another way. Even knowing it was impossible, she wanted to cling to even the faintest hope.

Saying she would go while struggling to find a way not to, how ridiculous. Yet she couldn’t stop.

‘If it’s truly possible to erase power… then Sillian could be free too.’

He wouldn’t be an obstacle to Eshar, and even if Lynette died first, he could go on living for a long time regardless.

Finishing her thoughts, Lynette lifted her gaze and looked straight at the man.

“If it truly were possible to erase the power… wouldn’t that be good for you as well, Sillian?”
