Chapter 124
Was it the shock? I felt completely paralyzed, as if caught by some binding spell—unable to move a muscle, except for my dry, blinking eyes.
From where I was standing, whether I wanted to or not, I had a clear view of all his private parts. At least, by some small mercy, he was still wearing a shirt, though it was so short it hardly covered anything.
“Wait, are you—”
I tried to say something—anything—but my words stumbled out, tangled by embarrassment. The man’s eyes suddenly lit up with interest as he caught the sound of my voice.
“A woman, huh.”
Fwap. Fwap. Fwap.
His hand, which had been moving slowly up and down, suddenly picked up speed. The wet, sticky sounds echoed in the small room, his moans becoming breathless and sharp with excitement.
He half-opened his eyes, giving me a sly, coquettish look as he asked,
“Hey, big sis over there, would you take off that mask for me? I bet you’d look even prettier without it.”
“…”
“If you want, you could take something else off too.”
Before coming here, the worst-case scenario I’d pictured was getting caught by investigators during my reconnaissance, maybe even being arrested. Sure, I’d considered some stressful outcomes, but this kind of situation was definitely not on my bingo card.
Interrogation, maybe. S****l harassment? Not even close.
What would Bali do in a situation like this? Or Ailrose? No, those two might have actually joined in for all I know. If it were Hawk, he’d have pulled a knife and threatened to cut off the part on the spot.
But as for me—a total rookie at this sort of mission and a thoroughly average citizen—the simple act of witnessing something like this left me utterly traumatized. I couldn’t even remember the questions I’d prepared for this investigation.
“Ahhh…”
Despite an intruder standing in his bedroom, the man carried on pleasuring himself as if nothing had happened. He eventually reached his climax. As s***n spurted onto his palm, he closed his eyes and basked in the afterglow, idly toying with himself as he caught his breath.
The sight made my stomach churn. Even through my mask, he must have sensed my disgust, because he just wiped his sticky hand on his shirt and grinned at me.
“Ah, sorry, sorry. I tried to hold back, but these days I just can’t help myself.”
“….”
“Maybe it’s because the body’s previous owner was a former paladin, you know? Did you know that people with high levels of holy power are supposed to have really strong s*x drives?”
As he rambled on, one phrase caught my attention: ‘the body’s previous owner.’
So he was saying this body wasn’t originally his? That he was a possessor?
“Why aren’t you more surprised?”
I dropped my voice about three octaves lower than usual to avoid giving myself away. Now I understood exactly why Hawk had been so suspicious of me at first. If you burst in, masked, on someone’s private moment and they just shrug and keep going?
Only a true lunatic—or another possessor—could act like that. And honestly, ignoring the audience to finish himself off put him in a class of crazy all his own.
“Aren’t you with those people? The, uh, rebels or whatever they call them—the group that helps possessors?”
“…Who told you about that?”
He shrugged and laughed.
“Who needed to tell me? It’s obvious if you read the news. Possessors are supposed to be killed on sight around here, aren’t they?”
I just stared at him in silence. Dirty silver hair. Dark gray eyes. That slick way of talking, clashing with his boyish looks.
I realized I’d seen this face before. He was the one who’d shocked me at the Public Security Bureau—having s*x in the room next to mine during my investigation.
Crudi Foss. No wonder the name had sounded familiar, though I hadn’t made the connection right away. Of all the ex-priest investigators I’d met, there were only two: Ren Abyss and him.
Maybe the term ‘priest’ had thrown me off. Paladins are technically a kind of priest, but I’d just assumed he’d been a regular priest.
But that wasn’t the important part now.
So this pervert really was a possessor? For real?
“I’m pretty sharp. I’ve picked up a lot just poking around the house. But honestly, I still don’t know much. From what I can tell, the place I work is basically a possessor-hunting place. It’s scary as hell. Won’t you help me out, sis?”
“……”
