<Saving the Possessor> – A reverse harem romance fantasy novel that even had a game adaptation.

The story follows an ordinary college student who possesses Extra Character 1 and fights off evil spirits while getting entangled with the male leads, ultimately breaking the prejudice against possessors.

In my case, I discovered the game after receiving it as a Christmas gift from a secret Santa friend who had participated in the event.

While playing, I wasn’t even concerned about romance with the male leads. I spent most of my time battling evil spirits. Until I read the original novel, I didn’t even realize it was supposed to be a romance genre.

“Of all things…”

The problem was that this world took the hunting of possessors very seriously.

Possessing an innocent person’s body was seen as a malevolent act by the people of this world, so when someone was suspected of being a possessor, they were subjected to intense interrogations and exorcisms.

The moment you were caught as a possessor, it was certain to lead to a death sentence. Even in the game, it wasn’t uncommon to die just from making the wrong dialogue choice.

But really, even if possessing the main character of a novel you were reading right before you died had become the norm, throwing me into a world where possessors were hunted down was too much.

“What about Dahlia? Is she awake?”

I was curious about the woman I had possessed even though it had only been a short time.

She wouldn’t have died just because I possessed her, right? It had only been a few days at most.

The moment Dahlia Mute crossed my mind, however, I was struck by an unpleasant feeling. Unlike Camilli’s body, it didn’t feel like my own. My vision, stomach, and everything else felt nauseatingly off.

Exorcism was a terrifying experience I never wanted to go through again, but I didn’t think staying in Dahlia’s body would have been all that pleasant either.

“Miss Dahlia woke up as soon as the exorcism was done. I heard that the priest is quite high-ranking, so he must be very skilled.”

The maid, who had been explaining, suddenly narrowed her eyes. She shot me a wary glance, her lips twitching nervously.

“By any chance, you’re… worried about Miss Dahlia?”

I could immediately tell from her uneasy gaze and thoughts. This was the situation, and it was one I had seen many times in the game.

Suspicion.

She was definitely suspecting me.

In Saving the Possessor, suspicion was synonymous with a death flag.

If this was the game, a dialogue choice would have appeared. And if I chose to add to the suspicion, I would have been headed straight for the bad ending.

But thankfully, I had at least grasped the family relationships when I first entered Dahlia’s body. I decided to emphasize that I found the situation annoying and sneered as I responded.

“Is that so? What a shame she woke up. I was thinking of throwing some holy water on her while she was still passed out.”

Considering that they both ended up in bed together because they fought and pulled each other’s hair, eventually falling into a lake, I thought this line was appropriate. As expected, my judgment seemed correct as the maid’s face quickly brightened.

“Miss Dahlia has already been given plenty of holy water.”

“……”

I know. How could I forget? It was like a bolt out of the blue.

Pushing aside the memories I didn’t want to recall, I took a sip of the water the maid had handed me. The water tastes different, perhaps because I was in another world.

I wonder if the lime was filtered properly. I mused on this trivial question before continuing my thoughts more seriously.

I had managed to avoid suspicion for now, but the real challenge was ahead.

For starters, I needed more information.

As I drank the lukewarm water, I considered what I needed most right now.

Although I couldn’t remember much about the character ‘Camilli Mute’, I had played the game recently and read the original novel in passing, so I knew a fair amount.

One key detail was ‘Hongik Ingan*’.

The name itself was familiar—Hongik Ingan was a secret organization dedicated to the survival of possessors.

They sought out possessors, provided information about the person they possessed to help them avoid suspicion, and occasionally even resorted to terrorism to interfere with the Public Security’s investigations.

In both the game and the original novel, the information provided by ‘Hongik Ingan’ was invaluable. In other words, if I wanted to see a happy ending, I absolutely had to form a connection with them.

And the way to contact them was…

“I need to make some noise.”

“Huh?”

Whether she overheard my muttering or not, the maid quickly responded.

The fact that she seemed so well-disciplined made me think that Camilli Mute probably wasn’t a very nice person.

Luna note:
[Hongik Ingan] is actually the motto of Korean education. They actually mean to benefit humankind.
