Chapter 57
I approached the room where the sound came from, unsure whether it was a painful groan or some other strange noise.
“Ughh!”
The door rattled as if it were about to open, and then a woman’s face appeared through a small window at the top. I instinctively took a step back, startled, but the woman, not seeing me, continued to press her forehead against the glass, groaning in pain.
The sight of her body swaying uncontrollably and the incessant moans—combined with the large hand gripping her shoulder and the muscular forearm, presumably male—finally made me realize the situation.
No way.
“Ahhh! Ah!”
What… is this?
I could never have imagined witnessing such a scene in broad daylight. My face turned red, my cheeks burning. Meanwhile, the couple inside the room was completely oblivious to my presence, lost in their passion.
“Isn’t that the interrogation room? Why… why is this happening in the interrogation room?”
Thud. Thud.
The rhythmic movements and the vibrations reaching the corridor made my head go blank.
This isn’t a hotel. This is supposed to be an interrogation room. How am I supposed to process what’s happening here?
Wait, what was the original story’s tone like again? I think there was a warning tag on it, wasn’t there? But surely, not like this… This is far too inappropriate.
Surely, I’m not expected to endure this too… am I?
“Miss Camilli?”
“Eek!”
Startled by my name being called, I quickly pressed myself against the wall. The investigator in charge of my case was, as expected, Ren Abyss. He was surprised too, his eyes wide, staring at me.
“Are you alright?”
“Y-yes. I’m fine. Really.”
I stammered, unable to explain what I had just witnessed. Trying to keep my composure, I smiled awkwardly and pretended to adjust my clothes, unable to meet his eyes after witnessing such an embarrassing scene.
“You’re flushed. Do you have a fever?”
“Huh? Oh, no, no, I’m fine, really.”
Maybe I should’ve said I had a fever and gone home. No, that wouldn’t help. Better to face this head-on.
Luckily, the passionate couple seemed to have reached a pause, and things calmed down. Had I had to witness that with someone else, especially with him, my face wouldn’t just have been red—it would’ve felt like I was on fire.
“Follow me.”
He opened the door to the room next to the interrogation room where the uncomfortable scene had just occurred. Why the room next door? I couldn’t help but worry whether they’d start something again.
As soon as I stepped into the room, with its dark lighting, long table, and only two chairs, I quickly realized what I should be worried about wasn’t some minor embarrassment, but my life.
Thankfully, there didn’t seem to be any torture devices in the room.
“Please, have a seat.”
“…Yes.”
I sat down in the chair he pulled out for me, constantly observing his movements. Being alone in this enclosed space with a man whose perfectly symmetrical features made him unnervingly odd made reality set in.
I’m here with the demon who captures possessors. Can I survive this?
“Um…”
I remembered the saying “strike first to win” and gathered my courage to speak first.
“I wanted to thank you for taking me from the orphanage the other day. I should have come to thank you in person, but somehow, I ended up sending a letter instead.”
The letter had been a cover for the fact that I passed out after rolling down the stairs. Of course, that wouldn’t explain why Tommy had fainted beside me, so I added that I was startled by something black passing by and lost my footing.
He’d probably assume that an evil spirit appeared and knocked out Tommy, and I happened to experience the same thing.
“I’m sorry if I caused any trouble.”
“No, it’s fine. As long as the Prince doesn’t find out about the late-night visit, it won’t cause any problems.”
“…What?”
