Chapter 86
Is he… checking my pulse?
“Miss Camilli, it seems that you get nervous whenever you’re standing in front of me.”
“…”
“It’s as if something is bothering you.”
A shiver ran down my spine, and my face twitched. I deliberately slowed my breathing, trying to calm my wildly racing heart.
I forced a gentle smile through trembling lips, slightly turning my head to avoid his persistent gaze, and played the shy lady.
“How could I not be nervous with such a handsome gentleman so close?”
Yeah, that felt natural enough. All that was left was to make a swift escape.
“Well then, I’ll just—”
“There’s the ball, isn’t there?”
As if glued to my hand with some kind of adhesive, he added casually without letting go.
“There will be many men there.”
“Yes… I suppose so?”
I furrowed my brow at his strange question. Why ask something like that? After his ridiculous talk about ‘situationship’, had he really bought into that concept?
My complaints were cut short when he suddenly tilted his head. The musk scent he carried on the night air overwhelmed any other thoughts.
The warmth radiating from him raised my body temperature. Though he looked slender at first glance, whenever he came close, his presence always overwhelmed me.
Frozen, unable to even blink under the pressure on my chest, he softly chuckled and whispered,
“I hope you return early, Miss Camilli.”
“…”
“We’ll see each other again.”
His low voice echoed near my ear. I stared blankly at the man’s retreating figure. The long white coat fluttering behind him looked like a spiteful sight. Villainous yet with a hero’s aura.
“Crazy bastard.”
Who did he think he was, telling me to go home early?
Truly, his concept was solid. Was that other reader tricked the same way? Giving mixed signals with that ‘situationship’ talk, confusing everyone?
[‘1 chapter’ remain until your stay expires. Please renew your residence permit soon!]
The message in the air flashed once more.
As if to say, now’s not the time for such thoughts.
Damn. I cursed quietly, pulled out my pocket watch, and checked the time. The last item had arrived late, so I was already running behind.
“…30 minutes.”
Sadly, only 30 minutes remained until midnight. At midnight, the D-day I remembered would arrive.
“What happens when there’s only one day left?”
The problem was I’d never reached D-1 with assist mode on, so I didn’t know how the timing worked.
Surely, I wouldn’t just drop dead the second the clock struck midnight.
“Surviving is damn hard.”
In the world called ‘Saving the Possessor’, it was absurd that the first person I needed to save was myself.
Shouldn’t player buffs be basic options?
[Welcome to the Playfield.]
Stepping down from the carriage and entering the mansion, the familiar message appeared. I handed my coat to the footman waiting at the door and sighed deeply as I looked up at the chandelier.
Despite running into the investigator I least wanted to see, I had arrived safely somehow. Fortunately, he hadn’t come to the party, so I’d likely avoid being targeted during the witch hunt.
All that remained now was to extend my residency permit before my life ran out.
[Your residency permit will remain valid while you are in the current chapter’s playfield.]
“Huh?”
My eyes widened at the sudden new information.
That meant if I arrived in the playfield before my permit expired, I could keep living.
“At least I won’t die right at midnight.”
Relieved, I let out a small chuckle, when suddenly—
“What’s so funny?”
A cold voice, void of any cheer, struck my ear.
