Chapter 44
Felice shrugged with a smile.
“If I were to talk about this in Rose’s boutique and a client saw me, imagine the uproar if they found out someone like me had been there. Who would buy Rose’s clothes then? It’s just the Baron’s kindness.”
“Exactly. Why would he be so kind?”
“…Rose.”
Felice called her softly but firmly. Her smile remained gentle, but Rose sighed and nodded.
“Alright. I won’t talk about your relationship anymore. But how about accepting the clothes? Since Felice’s clothes were stained, it’s only fair to receive rightful compensation.”
Rose glanced at the catalog.
“Still, accepting Rose’s clothes is too much. The price difference would be tenfold.”
“Think of it as making some money for me. How great would it be to make clothes while Felice is here!”
Rose clasped her hands tightly and looked at Felice expectantly.
Felice parted her lips, and Rose added,
“Remember the promise we made before, Felice? When I become famous, I’ll definitely make clothes for you.”
“…I remember.”
“But things got worse, and you said you wouldn’t accept my clothes even for free. Luckily, someone willing to pay has come along. So please, let me make clothes for Felice once more.”
Felice sighed.
Rose had been a young girl working at the boutique Felice’s grandfather used to frequent long ago.
Though Rose was sewing quietly in a corner, she had taken over making Felice’s clothes at her request, which had helped her flourish.
But Felice had already received so much from Rose. It was thanks to Rose that she could react swiftly upon hearing ladies’ romance news and gain various social insights.
Just as Felice was about to politely decline Rose’s offer, a knock came at the door—and Claude entered.
“Sorry I’m late.”
Rose and Felice’s gazes immediately turned to him.
Claude had supposedly not been at the estate, so to appear so suddenly surprised them. Since Rose was a guest, had he come back just in time?
“Hello, Baron Racliffe.”
Rose greeted formally and quickly mentioned her acquaintance with Felice to Claude.
“It’s an honor to be entrusted with Lady Felice’s clothes. I owe much to her from my childhood that brought me here today; meeting like this must be fate.”
Rose smiled brightly. Claude, walking over, raised an eyebrow and smiled gently.
“I didn’t know Madame Rose and Lady Felice were already connected. And such a story—Lady Felice must have been a good person from a young age.”
“Of course, Baron. Her heart is as beautiful as her looks. That’s why so many men have courted Lady Felice… no need to mention it. People seem to have similar tastes.”
Felice blushed deeply, embarrassed by Rose’s praise. Her profession as a romance tutor and experience meeting many men only confirmed her job, so she lowered her head shyly.
Felice clasped her hands over her thighs. Claude’s gaze, now resting on her from the sofa’s head seat, shifted toward her.
“I see. No doubt the men must have not left her alone.”
“Too many to count—more than two men approached her daily. But Lady Felice never gave them the slightest attention.”
…Oh no!
Felice suddenly raised her head and stared at Rose.
Rose blinked as if clueless, then tilted her head in surprise. She knew Felice was not only a tutor but also a romance tutor.
“I see.”
Claude smiled softly and nodded.
Leaning forward from the sofa, he looked at Rose.
“You must have been very close to know such intimate details. I’m curious—who, or rather, which gentleman tried to court her?”
