Chapter 53.2
Chapter 53.2
“Forgive my impertinence, but I wish to be kept informed of Prince Alexid’s activities while he studies in Kishar, Your Highness.”
A heavy silence followed my request. The crown prince appeared momentarily taken aback, clearly not expecting me to mention Alexid. Haroon Kisha broke the silence.
“Alexid, you mean…?”
The Lefkind prince studying in Kishar was Crown Prince Aven’s half-brother, Alexid Lefkindea, known as the “mad prince” or the “troublemaker.”
“Indeed… An unexpected request. You wish to be informed of Alexid’s activities?”
“Yes.”
“May I inquire as to your reasoning?” The crown prince’s gaze sharpened, his eyes narrowing as if trying to discern my motives for invoking Alexid’s name.
In the original story, Alexid would have returned to the Lefkind Empire immediately after Bashar Kisha’s death by poisoning. However, with Bashar’s life now saved, Alexid’s immediate return was no longer certain. Still, his designated study period in Kishar was nearing its end, so I couldn’t be complacent. He wouldn’t want to remain in Kishar; he would undoubtedly return to Lefkind. The future has already diverged from the novel, I thought, but that doesn’t guarantee safety. Alexid’s actions upon his return were crucial.
“My father, Count Hazel, is acquainted with Prince Alexid’s maternal grandfather.”
“Ah, is that so…?”
To be precise, the acquaintance was with my late grandfather, the previous count, but Fred Hazel considered it his own. He had to, I thought. He needed every possible connection to secure loans.
Upon Alexid’s return, my father would undoubtedly try to leverage this connection. Therefore, understanding Alexid’s activities, especially with the extended study period, was crucial. However, I couldn’t reveal the truth to the crown prince.
“I’m concerned my father might make unreasonable requests of Prince Alexid.”
“Unreasonable requests? Ah…” The crown prince murmured, then nodded in understanding.
“So, wouldn’t it be simpler to just clear the county’s debt?”
“Clearing the current debt doesn’t prevent future debts. Is that what you’re trying to say?”
The crown prince patiently explained to a seemingly perplexed Haroon. I nodded in agreement. The debt would inevitably return within months. I couldn’t ask for assistance every time it did.
“I see. It must have been difficult for Hazel.”
The crown prince murmured softly. He wasn’t referring to me or the county, but to my brother, Kelliard Hazel. He must have remembered Kelliard’s service in the Crow Knights. Should I reveal Kelliard’s true nature? I briefly considered it, but decided against it. I didn’t want to complicate matters further. I simply wanted Kelliard, my family, and myself to live our own separate lives.
“By understanding Prince Alexid’s activities, I can anticipate and prevent my father’s actions.” I forced a weary smile, feigning concern solely for my father’s behavior.
“…Very well. It’s not a difficult request. I’ll have someone send you regular updates.” The crown prince agreed with a small smile.
“Thank you.”
“Is that all? Anything else…?”
“That’s sufficient for now, Your Highness.” For now, it was enough. I might need further assistance later.
The crown prince, clearly perceptive to my implication, chuckled softly. “Understood. Don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything further. I’ll gladly assist.”
As expected, he was quick-witted. I returned his smile, my eyes crinkling at the corners.

The conversation continued for a while longer. I expected them to ask Damian about his reward, but they didn’t. Perhaps they had already discussed it privately. He seemed to be there solely to accompany me, sitting quietly and exuding an air of boredom.
“It was a pleasure speaking with you today, Lady Amelia.” As the crown prince concluded the conversation, Damian straightened from his languid posture, suddenly seeming energized.
“I wish we had more time, but unfortunately, I must take my leave.”
“Not at all. Thank you for inviting me, Your Highness.”
“Then perhaps another time.”
The crown prince smiled. I rose from my chair as he stood, feeling a slight release of tension as he walked towards the exit. I had achieved my objective for the day. Alexid Lefkindea’s movements were troubling. While I could have asked Ronen, the crown prince was undoubtedly the most informed source regarding the prince’s activities.
“Lady Hazel.” Ray Kewind approached me. “If your conversation with His Highness is concluded, shall we prepare for your departure? I’ll have the carriage ready.”
“Thank you. Then…”
“Amelia.”
“Wait!”
As I responded to Ray, both Damian and Haroon Kisha called out to me simultaneously.
“…?” I looked back at them, puzzled, but another voice cut through before either of them could speak.
“Now that your business is concluded, I’d like to speak with you.” Bashar Kisha stood there, seemingly having appeared out of nowhere.
What is going on? I thought, overwhelmed. Suddenly, everyone wanted my attention.
