Chapter 122
She wondered if the monsters underground were rampaging again, but once the shaking started, it didn’t stop, and the floor rumbled with a huge roar.
Boom boom boom! Slam—! BOOM!
‘W-What is this now?’
She frantically looked around. Frames hanging on the walls, assorted decorations, and even stone like debris from the ceiling came raining down. Thinking she might get hurt, she hurriedly deployed a shield, but then a bubbling, boiling sound rose from below, and a transparent mass of slime burst up with a pop!
“Uaaah?!”
Eki screamed and ran up the stairs. The slime mass that had burst out of the iron door connected to the basement split strangely into long, branch-like shapes, then began devouring the interior of the Thousand Tower starting from the first floor.
“Master! Master!”
This wasn’t an ordinary crisis. It was a disaster.
“What is that? A monster? Did the restraints come undone? But unless a mage directly tampered with them, they shouldn’t come loose!”
Panting, Eki ran up the stairs. But perhaps because she’d spent her entire life sitting at a desk drawing magic circles, her frail body began screaming after barely running up three floors. Her thighs swelled, and her calves felt like they were about to burst.
At that moment, something grabbed Eki’s ankle.
“Kyaaah!”
She was lifted upward in an instant.
Although it was a transparent slime mass, it had long, tentacle-like protrusions like a mid-tier monster, and it grabbed not only her ankle but also her arms and waist, spewing thick venom.
But because Eki had already cast a shield, the venom only streamed downward. Even so, wherever the liquid touched, her clothes melted away.
‘…No, wait. Don’t tell me this is…?!’
Eki’s mouth fell open. As a test, she summoned a fireball and shot it at the cluster of tentacles. Immediately, the tentacles quivered and dropped her.
“Eki!”
With her eyes squeezed shut as she braced for the impact, Cassius had already rushed to her side and cast a spell. The moment he snapped his fingers, Eki floated gently down and landed in her master’s arms.
Nothing had been resolved yet, but perhaps from the relief of seeing Cassius, tears slipped from Eki’s eyes.
“M-Master!”
“Are you alright? What in the world is going on?”
“I don’t know either. I was on my way to you, and then a monster suddenly burst up from the basement!”
“A monster?”
“Y-Yes. It looks like that giant slime we saw before. You know, the mutant one!”
As she spoke, Eki showed him her sleeves, which had melted and hung limply. Only then did Cassius’s gaze sweep over her body.
Though it had been a very short time, the slime’s venom had eaten away at parts of Eki’s shawl and nightwear. Her snow white waist and thighs, and even the underside of her hips, were briefly visible.
In an instant, Cassius flushed red and let out a pained sound. He quickly took off his coat and wrapped it around Eki.
“I get what’s happening now. But why did this thing suddenly come out? And what is this form?”
“I don’t know either. It looks like it evolved or something. Do slimes even turn into tentacles?”
“They don’t. Not unless someone cast magic on it…”
Magic. Magic, huh.
Eki rolled her eyes and was about to mention the fairies’ names just in case, but Venta and Tys suddenly popped out and waved their hands and feet.
【 It wasn’t us! 】
【 We didn’t do this! 】
“You scared me! Are you two okay? You’re not hurt anywhere, right?”
【 Yeah! 】
Right. There was no way Venta and Tys would do something like this.
“Then who could it be? It can’t be you, Master.”
“That goes without saying.”
“Could it be an outsider?”
“It could be.”
But as he’d said before, the Thousand Tower was protected by Cassius’s intricate magic. Who would dare crawl in here? Without the Gailard Association’s seal, they couldn’t even set foot inside…
Ah.
No way.
“Master.”
“Let’s head down first. We’ll need to subdue that thing.”
“Okay.”
