‘Hey, you only care about looks, right?’ he said, and then dumped me, saying there was no way he could date a shallow person like Eki.

That ill-mannered bastard. She shot back that if she really only cared about looks, she wouldn’t have dated him in the first place, but Braden was a severe narcissist and didn’t even listen properly.

‘Seriously, what did I ever see in him.’

Well, that was a long time ago now.

It happened not long after She joined the Thousand Tower. She couldn’t adapt to life out in the sticks and ended up dating just anyone, and that was the root of the problem.

Since that was Eki’s last relationship, it made sense that it stuck in her memory. Now, with Cassius around, it didn’t stir anything in her at all.

“I wasn’t planning on telling you, but that girl seemed to know you.”

“Really? Don’t tell me she heard it from Braden.”

“Probably.”

“We dated six whole years ago though?”

“Exactly.”

“Looks like your ex still hasn’t gotten over you.”

Giyote said that and gulped down the shaved ice that had completely melted into water.

Eki was dumbfounded. It had been six years, and it wasn’t even funny that he was talking about her to someone he was seeing now. Still, she replied that she understood. Honestly, whether it was Braden or Broken or whatever, she didn’t care what he was doing, she just hoped he wouldn’t cause trouble for Milla and Giyote.

Just then, a click sounded from the balcony. Eki immediately turned her head. Cassius had been about to come back inside, but then shut the door again and took a step back.

“Master?”

Eki, who had planned to stay put until he returned, changed her plan. It seemed Cassius had heard her conversation.

“I’ll be back in a bit.”

“Okay.”

“Take your time.”

She carefully opened the balcony door and peeked out. Cassius was there, smoking his pipe. The moment his eyes met Eki’s, he flinched and snapped his head away.

“…Why did you come out.”

“What else would I do?”

“I said I was cooling off.”

“You look cooled off already.”

“Not yet.”

Cassius’s voice was low as he said that. Eki rolled her eyes, then walked over to his side. She didn’t forget to draw the curtain so their conversation wouldn’t be heard.

“Master, did you hear us talking earlier?”

“…No.”

“Then why do you look like that?”

“What do you mean, how do I look.”

“It’s like when I tease you for looking like a grandpa.”

“I told you not to say that.”

The tendons in Cassius’s neck stood out, then quickly relaxed. He shot Eki a glare, then looked back up at the pitch dark night sky.

He definitely seemed to have heard what she said earlier. Normally, he would have scolded her endlessly about why he was not a grandpa.

‘He’s been gloomy on his own a lot lately.’

Her master was a delicate man, as sensitive as he was sharp. She didn’t know exactly why, but ever since he entered the Gailard Association, there were times when he dug himself into a hole alone. It seemed like a good opportunity to clear all of that up too.

“Are you bothered by my ex boyfriend?”

“No.”

“You answered way too fast. You heard it.”

“……”

“If you’re curious about anything, I can tell you everything.”

“…You were already my disciple six years ago. Why didn’t you say you were dating someone back then?”

“Eh. Master, we weren’t that close back then.”

“Then you should’ve told me later.”

“About that boyfriend from six years ago?”

“Your ‘ex’ boyfriend.”

“Ah, right. My ex-boyfriend.”

Cassius took a long drag from his pipe, then let the smoke drift into the air. He spoke in a gloomy voice.

“Eki, as you know, six years isn’t that distant of a past for me.”

“Yes.”

“…But Braden or whatever his name is, you said that man still misses you.”

“Uh, um. Probably not.”

“Then why is he still talking about you?”

Cassius snapped as he glared at Eki.

“He must still have feelings for you.”

“Master, for humans, six years is a very long time.”

“I told you it’s short.”

“It’s short for you.”

“Which is why I can’t help thinking that he still… likes you.”

This was the first time she had talked about something like this with Cassius. Her master valued dignity and appearances, and even in front of her, he liked to keep up a composed front.

So, realizing that he had dropped all of that and was openly jealous left Eki stunned. It was completely different from the mild displeasure he sometimes showed toward Milla.

“I know. I know I’m being strange. But I just can’t get rid of that thought…”

“Were you anxious?”

“……”

“Come on. I only have you, Master.”

Cassius pressed his lips tightly together. The veins on the back of the hand gripping the balcony railing stood out. Judging by how red his cheeks were, he didn’t look angry, just embarrassed.
