Chapter 40
“What… what did you say?”
So now she wasn’t even allowed to breathe?
Eki glared at him, then obediently covered her mouth and tried to breathe quietly.
Her master, so unbearably sharp and irritable, always acted like he carried the fury of the whole world whenever something went wrong with his magic. Right now, while he was analyzing the magic circle, she had no idea what he might do if she irritated him.
But just as she fell silent, Cassius spoke again after a brief pause.
“…But why the adam’s apple?”
“Because it’s sexy.”
Oh, for the love of—
“Ah, Master! Don’t ask me questions! I drank that potion, remember?!”
“W-Why is that my fault? I told you not to trust Ikelid! You’re the one always having weird thoughts, that’s why this is happening!”
“Weird thoughts… okay, that’s true, but I’ve always been good at hiding them!”
“Ha. Don’t make me laugh. You’ve always looked at me with such greedy eyes.”
“Goodness. That was just appreciation for having such a handsome master, not anything indecent or lustful!”
“Then why are you being indecent and lustful now?”
“Because that one time, I saw you c*m…!”
Eki froze and clamped her mouth shut.
Cassius’s eyes, which had been calmly studying the faintly glowing magic circle, flickered in disarray. In the narrow darkness of the wardrobe, their gazes met. For a moment, both could hear each other’s breathing too clearly.
‘I’m dead.’
Eki screamed inside her mind and covered her face with both hands.
Honestly, she thought lightning might strike her where she stood.
Mentioning what had happened with the slime was taboo. Yet she had gone and dragged that up while talking about her impure thoughts.
Damn that truth potion.
If she ever saw Ikelid again, she would grab him by the collar even if she turned to ash doing it.
Now she fully understood why Cassius had yelled at him.
But Cassius didn’t say a word for what felt like several dozen seconds.
He only clenched his jaw, the muscles along it twitching tightly, before turning his gaze back toward the magic circle.
Eki cautiously studied his expression.
“Master?”
“Don’t talk to me.”
“…Yessir.”
Her eyes had adapted to the dark by now, but it was still too dim to tell whether his face was flushed or not.
Eki stole quick glances at him, but aside from his stiff, stony expression, she couldn’t make out anything else.
In the end, she obeyed and stayed silent, as he’d ordered.
Cassius’s flushed face was well hidden.
The temperature inside the wardrobe slowly rose.
❖ ❖ ❖
Several dozen minutes passed like that.
Cassius felt sticky sweat trickling down his spine, and his brow creased in discomfort.
‘This thing is packed with useless enchantments.’
It was only natural that his magic was far superior now than it had been centuries ago.
He ground his teeth, suppressing the urge to go back in time and strangle his past self, while the heat continued to build.
“…Eki, are you alright?”
He glanced downward to see her fanning herself weakly, tongue poking out just a little.
The sight of that soft, round bit of pink flesh made his back twitch involuntarily.
His slit pupils narrowed.
A lazy bead of sweat crawled down his throat, gliding along the adam’s apple she’d called sexy.
Cassius quickly turned his head away toward the magic circle again, muttering a string of curses under his breath.
“Eki, move back.”
“…Even farther?”
“There’s another magic circle behind you. I need to see it.”
“Okay…”
She moved sluggishly, like a wet slime sliding through water. Naturally, Cassius wasn’t satisfied.
He frowned and scolded her.
“Move back or sideways, just get out of my sight.”
“You’re so mean. I told you, it’s too narrow to move.”
She wasn’t wrong. The cramped space left no room to go forward, backward, or sideways.
She tried bending her torso awkwardly to the side so he could see, but the result was ridiculous and barely helped.
At last, Cassius let out a deep sigh and reached out.
After a moment’s hesitation, he took hold of her shoulder and pulled her toward him.
