Chapter 70
“Eki.”
At the stern edge in her master’s voice, Eki flinched and snapped back to her senses.
Cassius’s neck was flushed bright red. He must have realized she’d been sneaking glances.
“You really are…”
“Ahhh, I’m sorry! I really won’t look again! I’ll close my eyes!”
But Cassius’s short, angry breaths did not calm.
He finished wiping himself in agitation and hastily pulled on his trousers.
Eki stood there with her face covered by both hands, blinking blankly before cautiously asking,
“Um, Master. About earlier… you didn’t hate it, right?”
“……”
“I mean, I actually liked it more than I expected. Was it not good for you?”
“For the love of—”
This time his voice was low, hot, and damp.
Eki kept her eyes shut and listened closely.
“For the love of god, can’t you… just keep that mouth shut?”
“But what if you actually hated it, and I, you know, forced you…?”
“If that were the case, I’d have blown up the jar—or you—with magic a long time ago!”
So that meant… he didn’t hate it?
Eki blinked and slowly lowered her hands.
Thankfully, Cassius was already fully dressed.
“Then you liked it?”
“What?”
“The part where I put it in… you liked it?”
Cassius’s pale green eyes flew wide open and froze.
He stared stiffly at Eki for a long moment, then covered his mouth with one large hand and turned his gaze aside.
He didn’t speak for quite some time.
But Eki, patient as ever, waited steadfastly for an answer.
If there was ever a time to use the patience she’d cultivated for seven years, it was now.
“…I……”
His lips parted and closed again, brushing over his flushed cheek as he hesitated.
When Cassius finally mustered the courage to open his mouth again—
A tiny doll, no bigger than a fist, with a tuft of soft white hair like cotton fluff, gently fluttered down between them.
【 He said he liked it! A lot! But the part where you licked his rear was too embarrassing! If not for that, he said he’d have wanted to keep going! 】
“Eh?”
【 And he wanted to touch you too! He just held back out of guilt… 】
“Wait—!”
Cassius snatched the doll at once and clamped its mouth shut.
Eki just stood there, dumbfounded, staring at the tuft of fluff.
“M-Master, is this magic? That thing just spoke, didn’t it?”
【 I’m not a doll, mmph! 】
“It is a doll. Looks like some wicked magic’s been cast on it. I’ll handle it.”
【 I’m not a doll! 】
The fluff wriggled free from Cassius’s rough grip and fluttered straight up to Eki’s nose.
Startled, Eki peered closely at the tiny figure speaking in a child’s voice.
‘What in the world…?’
It seemed like it really wasn’t a doll.
After all, dolls didn’t have big blinking eyes, tiny moving mouths, or pointy ears twitching like those of an ancient elf.
【 Hello, Eki! I’ve wanted to meet you for so long! 】
“M-Me?”
【 Yup! I was born from your dream! 】
Born from… my dream?
Eki frowned, but then her eyes widened as a sudden realization struck her.
“You mean, you’re—”
The tuft of fluff—or rather, the tiny fairy—lightly perched on the back of her hand and spread its snow-white arms wide, smiling radiantly.
【 That’s right! I’m your fairy! 】
❖ ❖ ❖
Fairies, born from the seeds of human dreams and hopes, had gone extinct after the Great War during the Dark Age.
Since then, countless mages had tried to bring them back to life, but none had ever truly succeeded.
“Ikelid and I were the same.”
Before they knew it, they were back in the laboratory.
Eki was holding the palm-sized baby fairy—its hair as soft and white as a dandelion puff—while listening to Cassius’s explanation.
He puffed on his pipe and shot the fairy a disapproving glance.
“We’ve spent centuries studying summoning circles to call fairies from the other world. But no matter how much we uncovered, we made no progress. We were about to give up.”
“So the magic formula that the Association Head was developing, the one you said you were helping with, was actually a fairy summoning circle?”
“That’s right.”
【 Oho! 】
